Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

May 7th is the day that, put it on your calender!

SD just told me that on May 7th there will be a RIF and it will be 10% across all markets and bands, AI driven. I will be out on sort term for 60 days and wanted to know if I will have a job to come back to. My SD said I am good but their will be a 10% RIF on May 7th and a few co-workers might not make it so not to be alarmed when I come back. Good luck all, and May the force be with you all!

@zw You absolutely are protected while on STD. Until you return. Then if you were on the list, you are terminated as of your return-to-work date. The senior directors are aware of the lists no later than the beginning of the layoff week. However, in this case, I'd say the SD got the 10% wrong.

You can be laid off while on STD as long as you are not selected as retaliation for taking off. If the company reorganizes, restructures or downsizes, then you may be laid off. Being on STD does not protect you.

If your on short term disability you may be gone sometime after you get back. Had this happen to several people already. That's cold.
