Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs Spain

How are Work Councils handling layoffs in your city? What information did you receive? It seems some people in Málaga were told they were impacted, while in Barcelona the WC keeps hiding behind the confidentiality.

@2ac i think if they want to respect the law then it should be this week, but it’s Wednesday and still didn’t hear anything (maybe it’s good sign)

@1vd from where you took 16k tax free? The tax exemption is based on the required by law days to be paid (20 or 33) and on the remaining amount there might be another exemption of 30% (if you meeting all conditions): https://sede.agenciatributaria.g-b.es/Sede/manuales/ejercicio-2017/modelo-100/7-cumplimentacion-irpf/7_5-rendimientos-actividades-economicas/7_5_2-regimen-estimacion-directa/7_5_2_4-reduccion-30-100.html#:~:text=7.5.2.4.-,Reducci%C3%B3n%20del%2030%20por%20100,en%20un%2030%20por%20100.

@1v3 normally all together in a same transfer on the last pay …

The first 16K are tax free …the rest they will retain taxes and include the nett in the total amount to transfer

@1ts in case of being fired when the severance package is paid: in the moment they will announce you or with the last salary on 27 of February?

by
| | Reply
Post ID: @1v3+1kfws1d2x

@1s1 law is saying that max 15 days before end date. If the end date is 28 February (but it’s Saturday, so might be 27 February), then i would expect 12-13 of February that they will notify people

So no one knows when the company will send the let go emails?

@1q2 employee volunteers in advance based on the conditions. WC negotiates with hr. The interchangeability have to be compatible (you cant change a salesperson for an engineer). Volunteer's manager have to be ok. Then it's official.
Also, if an employee is already in the layoff list, employee can ask to not be exchanged (since the conditions are really good). Many people volunteered

How the interchangebility works? If workers council found match, HR agrees, i think then HR should talk to managers of the person who wants to leave andhave their agreement for swap, right? And that’s it or there anyone else to decide/approve?

@1k4 that happens at any RIF at any Spanish company , one of the main missions of the WoC among others is reduce the number of impacted employees , they always take people out of the list , that is one of the reasons why those are supossed to be confidential

@1ag i am wondering how these number went down from 171 to 149. Does it mean that 22 people found smth internally? The ones who volunteered for interchangeability should be included in the list since it’s swapping places, right?

@1ag if some people have been notified already …who has done so ? HR or WoC? And about the new round of layoffs I believe most part of people affected will be in US and India , because Oracle has the majority of the workforce in those locations ( 114 K employees) and because in EU is harder to do another massive one even if the previous one has not been finalized …

@1ae WC said mid feb, but some people have been notified already. Also they shared that final amount of ppl affected is 149, 22 less than initially announced. Also now we are getting news of new mass layoffs again… what a place to be.

When will the emails delivering the bad news be sent out exactly? Not even this info we can get.

@187 I'm a volunteer for rif because I will get +6 figures without taxes as compensation. Our laws protect us and not your pedo leaders. Worst thing that can happen is that I keep my work.

@10p You’re definitely one angry Spaniard. Seek professional help after you get RIFd, kid.

@xj The company may pay part of the notice period and give the news later. They did it in the past.

Lots of angry Oracle Spaniards here complaining "How dare they layoff us!"

Well...Get used to it, the RIFs are going to expand everywhere. It's about time that Oracle employees outside of the US take on some of the RIF pain.

@bg That's absolute nonsense. Our last WC rep was laid off. And he absolutely tried to squeeze every last cent out of Oracle for the rest of us at every opportunity.

@n6 Europe has been affected by at least the last two rounds of layoffs too. Have lost loads of good people in the UK especially.

@xj I heard rumors about some people being notified already. WC is trying to find a last minute solution

by

Post ID: @xq+1kfws1d2x

So, company should give a notice 30 days before end date of 28-February. If Oracle wants to respect this, then they should have informed affected ones today… Any heard smth?

Good to finally see the layoff grief spread elsewhere instead of just Oracle US people being RIFd. Arrogant European workers have government “protections”. I’ve worked with people in the Madrid office, and they are incredibly unproductive and lazy. All they do is make PPT slides.

Pretty nice that you all have those worker councils in the EU.

Is it not so great then? it’s something at least for worker power. Meanwhile in the US the management gets spooked with anything even remotely sounding like a unions, it’s ridiculous how fast the lawyers jump in and scare the spineless managers in the US.

@bb that is the reality in Spain unfortunately , WoCs almost never work to help employees but the company , as the WoC members are also protected by law and they can’ t be laid off ….

I wonder what they've signed to keep saying that everything is confidential. Plus, they represent the employees not the company. If some people were informed about their situation for the swaps, it's not legal to keep other people in the dark.

@b7 the WoC is useless , they have the names since November and they keep the info hidden just to exchange 2/3 volunteers ..impacted people deserve to know , we all have different personal and profesional circunstantes … or maybe a good Job offer that wont be so bad to take if impacted … but again , selfish and useless people
