Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

ANI - All Hands Meeting Nov 6th

If 17 years at company has taught me anything, nothing good ever came from an All Hands Meeting. They're not announcing new jobs or pay raises. Hopefully those impacted by what's coming have been given a good heads up and nice Payoff.

Still tuned to this thread on Nov 6th.

@33c Yeah agree. I have seen the work the CompoZed guys do and they are very impressive. They demoed a new AI app which they did a few weeks ago which can open images of auto damage sent in via cell phone and can scan them to assess what the damage is and how bad. It was frighteningly accurate.

@2zx Yeah Compozed is still there. They're now pretty much regarded as the Delta Force at State. Its kinda where they put all the best people - all the younger Devs with up to date skill sets and the older Devs who have been able to transition across to up to date skill sets. Word is they actually pay them better than other areas of the company now so they can retain them.

@290

What happened to CompoZed?

I started my career there a long, long time ago now. There was a real lively buzz about working in CompoZed back then. Great people, some decent tech, and interesting problems. I only quit because I was offered a pay increase barely above inflation despite getting a good rating.

OP here...i was misinformed. Apologies for any stress caused.

It's almost like you can't trust everything you read on an anonymous website with no fact checking

@290 LOL funny we were just talking about that last week. Yeah a lot of the people who were involved in Compozed used it as a springboard to a better career and fair play to them for it. Know one who is a Principal SE now with a leading CICD company and he says if it wasn't for Compozed he would still probably be at ANI festering in obscurity and working on low paid mediocre legacy sh--e. Funny enough they stopped doing the Compozed training after that!

If they’re actively pushing you to move to something new “hot” thing it has always ended badly.

Assembler programming is the way to go!!!

The only time Allstate have ever built anything quickly was in CompoZed, and look what happened to everyone involved with that...

@252 LOL!!! you think Allstate can architect "completely new systems across all business areas, and these systems are being built from the ground up using AI and Agentic AI." and be "up and running in production in under 2 years" you're as delusional as our leadership. I suspect you are either one of our "leaders" or a brown noser hoping to be one.

What we'll end up with is a half a$$ed mess that doesn't work.

Thanks for giving me a much needed laugh today :)

@1zq You must have been in a different stand up to me then because from where I stand they sent a very clear and worrying message about the not too distant future. Allstate are very aggressively going after a much higher stake in the insurance market. They are dumping the core legacy systems completely. Forcefully implementing completely new systems across all business areas, and these systems are being built from the ground up using AI and Agentic AI. All to be up and running in production in under 2 years. And all to lower costs significantly so they can offer much lower premiums to attract new customers. I strongly suspect that anyone still working on those legacy systems after that and without a modern skillset is going to find themselves ushered towards the door at that point. Many people in Allstate have relied on their knowledge of legacy systems and their business knowledge to keep them employable up until now. That's soon to evaporate and such people can no longer afford to be complacent - with ultra modern new systems and redefined business processes on the way, it will be the people who design and build those systems who will be vital to the company and anyone not fitting into that category will be superfluous to requirements.

Well I was just fired due to lack of production because there was not enough work for everyone due to over staffing then they lied to unemployment stating there was plenty of work so unemployment denied. Nice to get let go before layoffs due to lack of work. Many people have been cut and denied so Tom can get another multi million bonus from the board for saving on unemployment claim payouts. This company su-ks and deserves to be shut down

Let's see....they should have had their manager meeting in Chicago by now. All the middle management a-s kissers have successfully covered up or shifted the blame for their short circuiting the latest transformation because of their a-s covering, and political maneuvering. So, it should be a dog and pony show of how many bazillions of dollars the company made in 3rd quarter and how we're poised to be the #1 company in no time at all. Followed by an announcement about how we'll be reimagining people right out of the company.

Then the cycle will start again in January. Some new clown show will take over with the latest straw management is grasping at to reattain long ago lost relevance and it all begins again. Next year at this time, same sh-t. The circle of Big Blue life.

All Hands, Town Hall, All Connect....all the same corporate bulls-hit for trailers of upcoming layoffs. Or ill planned and poorly thought out restructuring and new processes based on the clueless a--hats in the ivory tower and the gaggle of stupid mo--ns making 6 figures "strategizing" what they know nothing about.

Regardless a total waste of time and resources these meeting. Attending is not encouraged if you want to save brain cells. People truly become d-mber just attending those circus side shows.

The bigwigs are over. It’s the townhall.

The place is a complete sh!tshow for sure but there’s no need to make it worse by seeing cr-p when there isn’t any.

I’d actually hoped when I read this that it might’ve been an announcement that McKeown was going, but yeah just the townhall. Thanks for getting my hopes up!
