Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Belk struggling to find quality store managers

Belk has resorted to hiring managers with no real skills or management power, it seems like they regurgitate what is said in emails or conference calls yet make no effort to follow up on any issues in the store. Many employees have complained that their store managers are lacking skills, knowledge, and motivation to successfully run their store, some sales team managers, merch team managers, leads, and key holders have voiced concern that they are the ones running the stores, yet the store manager is taking credit and being compensated for their hard work. The question is who is hiring these ineffective store managers ? and why? It’s of great concern when the leads, associates, and floor managers care more and know more about their store than the actual store manager.

@25b

You need to carefully document that. Keep a log of everything he is (or is not) doing, dates, times, as much detail as possible. Keep full names and dates of everyone he is hiring/if they are friends, relatives or former coworkers.
If you feel targeted for whatever reason file an excel line complaint (even if it’s anonymous) so you have proof the company is aware of the problem. You can actually save the response the company gives to the report (but don’t expect much of a response from belk).
If other coworkers feel targeted also, partner with them, and share stories, they’re is power in numbers too…

Our store manager transferred from another store where he was store manager. Half of the people working here don't even know who he is or have never seen him. He hasn't made himself approachable and he's been here for nearly 6 months. He has put friends of his in as leads and/or managers and he's trying to get people to quit or get fired so that he can bring in his friends from his old store.

This is a systemic issue at Belk. I believe the “let’s hire our friends and relatives “ culture has destroyed belk, I’ve seen far superior candidates passed over because someone wants to hire their cousin, friend, former coworker, or neighbor…it happens all the time unfortunately, especially at belk.
