Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is November 20 really the most likely date?

Or are we still in rumorland? I’ve been hearing similar things, but nothing certain.

15% RIF across the board, notice on Nov 20, off payroll Dec 19 is what we were told.

Caught it today at 8:35am. Im still waiting to receive the details of the severance. I was in the field and top in productivity. This is devastation when you see people with lower results keeping there jobs. 12/19 off the payroll.

Retail will be hit the hardest this time around. They were mostly kept around previous RIFs because they were "making the sales." This time around it's sales teams that dropped the ball and didn't generate the revenue they usually did.
Also, non-domestic employees will be impacted as well as the plan to hire them for less backfired. The company is getting below average quality work from them and is causing duplicate work and increased medical leaves due to stress for over worked tenured employees.
Good luck to everyone that works there.

Sorry you guys are going through this. I worked for VZ for 25 years, I skated through countless of layoffs. My gut told me to take the VSP. Glad I did. I knew this BS was coming. Prayers for you all.

@269 Your ranking in your group will determine whether you stay or go so folks ought to be cognizant of where they stand. That is unless your manager plays favorites and does not care about contribution.

I for one hope to see the Board increase the dividend once again after said RIF takes place. I feel for all of you, but I'm so close to paying cash for a brand-new Vette.

Keep humping team VZ, stockholders genuinely do appreciate those of you being RIFd and those of you that survive.

@320 if your allowed to take vacation on one of the busiest sales weeks of the year then your job isn’t that important and your probably getting riffed.

I wanted to check whether there’s been any update regarding the senior directors. Have they been informed yet, or is that still in progress?

@2db so after notification has been made, laptops, cellphones and ID cards are turned in? If planned vacation was scheduled for the Thanksgiving week, one better cancel those days since they can't work without a laptop. Correct?

@ae Only if the last day is the day they tell you. WARN is minimum 30 days, some states are 60 or even more.

If we get notified in 11/20 that's when they will file WARN with the states in accordance with their minimum notice duration.

@ay most states have public sites to check. Search it up and you may see for your state what they submitted.

Vz is a joke. Left there years ago and still laugh at how often they use layoffs to cover pi-s poor management decisions around awful strategic decisions but hey, always excited to see the next #vzslogan of the day. Loving the slow crumble.

@1j5 Not enough time for it to be a RIF. Notified 11/20, off the books 12/20. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Our network and customer service may not be as reliable as it once was, but the Verizon annual Home For The Holidays program hits every year like clockwork. Go V Teamers!!!

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act is a U.S. federal law that requires certain employers to provide 60 days’ advance notice of plant closings or mass layoffs to affected employees, unions, and government entities. The key thresholds that trigger WARN Act requirements are as follows:
Employer Coverage Threshold
• The Act applies to employers with 100 or more full-time employees (defined as those working at least 20 hours per week and employed for at least 6 of the 12 months preceding the notice date).
• Alternatively, it covers employers with 100 or more employees (full- and part-time combined) who work a total of at least 4,000 hours per week, excluding overtime. Employees with fewer than 6 months on the job or those working fewer than 20 hours per week are not counted toward the 100-employee threshold.

@1af In recent years Vz has always included STI as part of the RIF or VSP packages. Hopefully the new CEO will continue this.

It’s hard to believe reset the cuts will be massive considering from December of last year and March of this year there was a reduction in workforce through voluntary severance. I believe the cuts based on Dan’s history which is about 7-10% will be about 7-10,000 employees. If it’s more I’ll be shocked. As to when think we will hear something around mid November. Just my rational thoughts not the fear mongering I’m seeing in here.
