Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Reflections on leaving target…

I resigned two months ago for a new opportunity and I was really nervous about how it would feel to leave Target. Losing “opportunity”, the chance to work on things at Target scale, the benefits of Target’s brand on my resume.

Honestly, all of those concerns faded a few days in to my new position. Not because my new job is just like Target, but because I didn’t realize how poor the leadership truly is at Target until I worked with people who get along with one another and understand the goal of their work.

People have been welcoming and collaborative. I haven’t been stonewalled in a turf war. Communication is simple and clear. I get what we’re doing and so does everyone else.

The compensation is also par and so is my opportunity.

If you feel like target isn’t firing on all cylinders for you, leave. There are jobs out there.

@20h notice is simply a courtesy - your employment is at will.

Is it required to give notice?

It was bittersweet for me when I left, but I had developed out of my position. Target was good letting me continue to be stagnant as “there wasn’t any roles for me at that time” but as soon as I gave notice all of a sudden they wanted to talk other options. I honestly can say I am so much happier in my new job, which coincidentally I could have easily moved into this role at Target had they looked at current talent rather than hiring fresh out of college no life/work experience. My advice is don’t over-achieve in your current role or you will never promote, as that is where they tie your value.

I had the same experience as you both except unprofessional things were done to me and so I left. A top leader was aware and she didn’t care and she has since “retired”

Your assessment is spot on. I also left and felt the exact same way putting in my notice. I think why its hard is because Target feels like the end all be all for employers in Minnesota because they are everywhere and everyone knows Target. I love my new role and so glad I left. You can still have a great role at Target and be happy for sure, but there are great careers and companies outside of Target.
