Thread regarding Hitachi Vantara layoffs

Finally…! Hitachi to sell Hitachi Vantara and it’s storage business!

https://news.bloomberglaw.com/private-equity/hitachi-is-said-to-seek-buyer-for-1-3-billion-data-storage-unit

After a decade of mismanagement, Hitachi Vantara will seize to exist. From Brian Householder, Gajen Kandiah, to Sheila Rohra and her buddy Octavian, a string of incompetent leaders have eroded the company to a tired, irrelevant, skeleton with employees waiting for their turn at the chopping block.

Question is who will be interested in a dying business with small margins… Private equity? Broadcom? The other verdors will certainly want to spend their acquisition budget elsewhere. And without the Hitachi name, who will be interested in just Vantara? And for what? Their fabulous storage products, enterprise address book?

The recent round of layoffs and integration of ITPro make sense all of a sudden! It’s very sad for the employees though…

The Titanic is finally going under and will fall to pieces below the surface. Bye, bye, Vantara!

@dek Completely agree. Tammy is a toxic leader who makes layoff decisions based on her personal preference and retaliates against capable employees she sees as “not her own people,” putting the company at the edge of serious legal risk.

I've been sitting with this for a few months because I'm trying to show some grace - but I really hope Tammy (et al) is enjoying her employment. Her inaction and ineptitude has completely fu---d a lot of good, smart, hard working people. SUPER excited for her to eventually get her "bonus and retire" though once Japan is done with her as a reward for fu--ing the business out of millions for her vanity projects, and costing people their livelihoods. This job market is an absolute nightmare.

@6r8 Fun fact about Pentaho. The company was named by combining "penta" for the five original founders and "ho" because they loved strip clubs, which was always their sort of inside joke. This is legitimately how the company came to be.

@6rq what makes you think the company isn't for sale now?

@6rq Or the 'new' but old Japanese CEO is taking over to help with transition of the sale. End of April or sooner will tell ?

Well at least we know the company isn’t for sale and a new Japanese CEO is taking over. Positive times.

The end began in 2017 when HDS brought Pentaho into the fold. Total disaster that brought nee faces to the management ream.

Problem is multi faceted. Wrong or no strategy. Mid management forecast not help. Bad hires. Very few quality sales people. Most just asleep at the wheel taking a salary.

Other than that, it’s perfect.

@575 you might want to try selling products that are half-baked, then you would know their reasonings

@557 if the company is not doing well the sales people must be pretty bad at their jobs so they are doing the company a favor then aren't they?

Many sales and pre-sales people are resigning they may not be a layoff required.

Talking head Sheila is resigning as the CEO due to "personal reasons." Love the ChatGPT email she droned out to us listing all of her "accomplishments" while she careened us towards the iceberg.

The end is nigh for this company. It's not a coincidence you continue to hear about more and more Japanese colleagues and executives as these weeks go by.

@3tx it was a very different "acquisition" They were kept untouched for many years and then if anything, the leadership and engineers from HGST took over positions at WDC!

Post ID: @3ty+1kg9t6qzj

Does anyone know how Hitachi has handled these situations in the past, with regards to how employees are handled? Did the HGST folks get packages? Or was it a "stay on with WDC if you want, and good luck to you" scenario?

Anyone being contacted by recruiters? I’ve been reached out to and interviewed with a couple. Kind of weird how the recruiters keep bringing up the HV sale. Not sure if they’re serious or just fishing for information. Anyone else experiencing this?

Ignore the lies spun by this batch of leader-wannabes, if you can even all them that.
Question is who is gonna pick up Vantara? PEs? Other vendors? Competitors?

referring to:
"Bootnote
We might assess a general Hitachi Vantara weakness as its subjugation under Hitachi Ltd in Japan, which parachuted in a succession of Japanese Hitachi senior leaders, diluting the influence of the possibly more entrepreneurial and Silicon Valley-connected US leaders."

Agreed.
The damage started when H parachuted To** To** in to run HV and installed Ga K, where he enabled Ga K and his associates to dismantle the business from within. Although Ga* was eventually exposed and exited for sheer incompetence and fraudulent mismanagement, To** To** escaped the wreckage unscathed—and was actually promoted the big C-suite. It’s a baffling lack of accountability for the person who set the stage for the crisis.
