Had a terrible experience working at PepsiCo

The worst of all the jobs I had.

@cj you maybe clouded by your anti Indian bias but my experience is opp. I have had very good relationship and treatment from Indian leaders and coworkers.

A lot of us were eating our popcorn watching Athina get under Seth's skin and his bad leadership got him fired but most of the toxic culture is because of Seth Cohen. He maybe gone but we need to get rid of folks he appointmented/hired and reboot the culture.

@1r1 Speak Fearlessly is a big joke, my manager called out my disability to the whole team as a way to mock me. I brought it up to HR and was immediately made to be the issue that I heard it wrong. There was no mistake on my part what I heard. I was given a bad review and eventually let go. The Mgr that did it is a lifer representing Pepsico in a negative light. She talks horrible about other management and laughs during team meetings saying "oops" did I say that.....She is so blind she is being lead by a team lead that mocks her behind her back and lies about other team members and mocks them on public forums. Someone brought up this to Pepsico HR and did nothing to the team lead. Beware that apparently speaking Spanish talking about PepsiCo processes and bashing white colleagues on public forums is perfectly acceptable. She tried to bully me out of a scheduled vacation that I had months on the calendar. In the end the Mgr let us both have our vacation on the same day. She lied saying she placed her day on the calendar before mine. She is so clueless, the document has tracking capabilities I went back to look I placed my vacation months before hers, yet she lied saying hers came first. She is a bully of the team.

Speak Up isn't for low-level employees to whine about their manager to get them in hot water. It's to shield Pepsi from legal risks. Investigations usually show minimal legal exposure, and your manager might get a nudge to stop whatever you’re griping about. People often think, 'I don’t like Johnny, so I’ll snitch, and he’ll get canned.' Reality check: you’re probably more at fault, and Johnny’s just stuck dealing with your nonsense directly because it’s all risk and no reward.

@bb - When I reached out to SpeakUp my case was directly sent to the Legal department. There is nothing that can convince me that I wasn't penalized for reporting my manager for age and disability harassment (and Legal did confirm that it was harassment), but I was kept with that manager and was told my role was being eliminated. After interviewing with other teams I simply accepted the VRP. SpeakUp is absolutely a scam, and eliminating my role was revenge. Taking VRP was the best decision I made with Pepsi in years.

@rq she won't. She is corrupt and sold out to vested interests in Accenture and offshore Indian companies.

@fy Those individuals too often fail to communicate with their teams and colleagues in a respectful manner and show little regard for the norms and standards that PepsiCo has established over the years. Athina should trigger a proper cleanup; otherwise, we risk being stuck in the same dysfunctional cesspool well into 2026.

sick, toxic company, delivering sick and toxic products to the market. There´s hardly anything healthy about Pepsico products and there´s hardly anything healthy about working for Pepsico

@cj only toxic Indians? look and the transformation leads and their drones. All white, all toxic. It is not a matter of race, S&T is a cesspool.

Lately I’ve been questioning myself and my capabilities, even though I know I’m smart and have consistently delivered results. As an Indian professional, I’ve had my work demeaned — once being told by a Caucasian coworker that my contributions weren’t important, even though their own work was limited to building decks with little real action.

The truth is, this isn’t about one group being better or worse. Bias and negativity exist across all backgrounds. What’s more concerning is that PepsiCo has failed at times to choose the right people for the right roles. Those who excel at “managing up” often get rewarded, while those who drive real outcomes are overlooked.

I reported this behavior to HR, yet nothing meaningful was done. That failure only reinforced the message that appearances matter more than substance, and it leaves people like me questioning ourselves when we shouldn’t have to.

@c1 my time in SnT has been with toxic narcissist senior directors.. Indians who are insulting, manipulative and have no.level.of respect for anyone. A newer Indian senior director should have been fired for his toxic and insulting nature which includes demeaning women. Yet they get away as these are all against ways of working.
Until indianization of SnT is stopped there is a black hole of cesspool we are in.
They should all be terminated enmass. Enough is enough. Get rid of these Indians once and for all. We need equity not a tsunami of Indians.

During my time there, I came across some truly toxic leadership including the former CFO, some VPs, former CIO and a few of his close followers. Unfortunately, this kind of behavior isn’t rare. Many so-called “leaders” seem more focused on building personal cults, flying business class on the company’s dime, racking up miles, and cashing in bonuses or equity — all while neglecting their teams. In my experience, fewer than 5% of leaders genuinely embody servant leadership and care about their people.
Toxic leaders will surround themselves with a layer of yes men who are like buffer zone. Sad to see large enterprises fall into this category.

Painful truths I learned about Pepsico recently, as an employee :

  1. This is no longer a company that genuinely cares about its employees or even the values it preaches to employees and consumers.

  2. There is a lot of conniving behaviors and lack of integrity among Pepsico leadership, especially at S&T - from director level all the way to executives!

  3. Speak- up process is fundamentally broken and cannot be trusted! Don't be a fool!

  4. Too many Indians in leadership roles - way out of proportions for US company

  5. HR is there to protect the leadership folks and the company - not to protect and care for employees. Be alert!

  6. Too many layoffs every year across of all Pepsico is ruining the company from the inside : lack of continuity, broken processes, voids of information and accountability !

  7. Market trends are against Pepsico - PEP people know it - anyone reasonable is there to drain company resources as long as they can before getting on to a next best thing.

  8. From CEO to leadership - change is desperately needed!

  9. Pepsico became extremely disorganized; lack of proper planning and accountabilities undermine any efforts of needed digital transformation.

  10. There are too many cover-up of shady behaviors and decisions, not only in S&T!

I am not the original poster - but let me add some of my own experiences. I am 65 and have been in the labor force nearly half a century. My employers were anything from small family businesses to global giants. My 7 years at this mismanaged menagerie have without a doubt been both the most stressful and degrading environments I’ve experienced. From the insulting less than 1% increases while the incompetent leaders fatten their salaries by large margins each year, to the constant lay offs, arrogant managers, this place is to be avoided if at all possible. It may look good on a resume, but that’s about all. You will leave burnt out, doubting your own self worth and wondering why and how you put up with their c*rp for so long.
