Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Who's ready for GOOGLE

Is everyone elses departments and co-workers freaking out about the Google migration next week? There are some people that think this will be the greatest thing with no issues, but I have to disagree....

@1m2 rule of thumb-never trust anyone that says silky smooth. They lie.

@1j1 Oh, so you’re saying that Mike Lebron guy lied about a silky “smooth” transition which would reduce the “friction”? Shocker…..

But hey, his kid loves using Google for the Science Fair project, so you know that’s what really matters, not your 68k emails. Capeesh?

Google is great Gemini has automated my entire job now I can go out and get a side project and nobody knows the wiser. I can prob make Gemini do Sammy job except for the traveling he does. But Sammy made a great decision these new tools are great

@1j1 it is the worst possible decision made at this company. We are suffering, production is at a slow crawl, and they are looking the other way. Class action hostile working environment to say the very least.

Google su-ks let’s call it what it is stop thinking otherwise. All of my folders from outlook generated banks and empty labels years of hard work gone now I have 68,000 emails in my inbox. Not joking. I’m going to select all and delete because the filtering in Gmail is useless and time consuming. I’m
Not sorting 68k worth of email easier to start with an inbox at zero!

Google has been a frickin’ disaster.

The two biggest issues I have experienced are the Google Groups which replaced the shared email boxes. and the Shared Drives of the MS Teams channels. So much productivity is being, and will be, lost trying to find stuff.

Google Sheets deserves its own complaint thread on this website. Lotus 123 would be an upgrade over Sheets.

Please make my life MORE complicated, I just don’t have enough going on.

@19c That would be brilliant for someone to create a Canon Union Petition Group / Space / Site (whatever the heck it’s called).

They want us to collaborate? Sure thing, be careful what you wish for.

@15h using gemini to unfudge the problem that is google, is like making a crutch from your own broken legs. whatever help it provides is relative to the ghastly predicament we are in. We went from a situation of "sorta works" to "sorta works if you really squint hard enough to fall back asleep".
I am all for using google-collaboration to form a union at this point. Until then, I will maliciously comply until the weight of this house of cards crumbles.

@18k We are a global tech company that is using tech for small companies. Embarrassing.

For all the youngsters under 35, the Internet speed today was basically how it was like to “surf the web” in 1995 using AOL dial-up connection, without the annoying screeching noise at sign on. Ahhhhh, good times….today made me feel like a kid again.

@153 I have 6 shared mailboxes and creating helped sort all my emails into labels. I created inbox and sent labels for each to mimic as if they were separate mailboxes.

Network going down has been a bummer, but besides that, I haven’t had many issues. I have had to use Gemini a lot to learn how to update settings to my liking. Buttons in different places and Drive will be a learning curve, but not the end of the world like most people on this site believe.

Disastrous Day 1 so far. Network has been crashing throughout the day. They don’t have the infrastructure to handle the surge. LOL Shared inboxes in Google Groups will take YEARS to clean up into “Labels”. Literally, tens of thousands e-mail threads. Thanks, King Lebron!

@s5 True, I think he comes off as cocky and self-aggrandizing. Clearly, he doesn’t fully grasp the workflows throughout the company and Pooh-Poohs the impact. There is nothing more annoying than a subservient cuck!

What did I miss at today’s legendary “Fireside Chat”?

I actually have work that needs to get done unlike these Google clowns.

@fy Have you tried opening a Google Sheets file with more than 15,000 rows?

Lose functionality = lose ability to do simple daily tasks with data sets.

I guess they want to purge all of the analysts and anybody who works heavily with data within the company.

No Excel, No Power BI, No MS Access, Oracle/S21 database compatibility issues with Google Sheets …don’t cry when you can’t get a report.

Oh that’s right, Gemini will do everything for you. Let’s see how accurate it is…….this should be good.

I’m going to put my feet up on my desk, laugh hysterically when this comes crashing down, and scream to anybody that will listen “I TOLD YA SO!!!”

Google platform is simple to use. Yes, small learning curve. Yes, 5% of employees will lose functionality. Most will think it’s fine after 2 months. Everyone just hates change, that’s the problem.

I hope ML has stocked up on 50 lbs. of coffee beans in preparation for the long nights ahead of dealing with nonstop issues and complaints. I’m anticipating this to be a major failure, and they will have to dial it back at some point.
