USAA went from being a decent to a horrible place to work in the last few years. I'm ready to move on, and it'd be even better if they paid me to do so.

Does anyone think or have heard of lay offs at the USAA bank for 2026? If so it’s interesting because they are hiring but very minimal for senior product roles
Same!
@1eb That's not how that works at all. The 2 months is in lieu of notice, so they don't have to file warn notices. You then get your 6 months which is taxed at the supplemental rate. It likely won't be paid until next year because they don't pay it until after you are actually separated. You won't be able to get unemployment for 6 months in Texas either, which is part of why they don't pay it until after official separation; to make sure you can't.
Ask me how I know.
@kn If your severance is 6 months the payout would only be 4 since you are employed for 60days after the notice. And then high taxes plus if it is at the end of the year your income tax band probably increases so even more taxes.....ask me how I know
Your wish may get granted this week. Rumor is that this week notices are going out in bank to finish Q4 off.
@be - There was no reason to drag family here. Anyhow, again that's the nature of people like you at USAA which is making this place with people who are focused on cribbing, whining vs focusing on self development, self belief & self competence. The spirit is simple. If you dont like working, start searching for a job, invest in upskilling & networking outside the firm. The job market is tough. Hiring still continues for right talent.
@rt doesn’t work that way, friend of mine asked her AVP to be laid off last year, was told no since they would need to backfill the role. Not sure how they pick the employees for layoffs, it can range, as I’ve seen ED’s, Directors, managers, seniors and even MSR’s being part of these layoffs each quarter.
Not like USAA cares about my opinion, but it would be downright cruel to layoff anyone right now, “happy holidays from USAA, our gift to you, a layoff notice, stress before the holidays and trying to find a new job with all the Q4 hiring freezes around the country.”
If you think it’s not the place for you, and you know that layoffs are coming, why not ask your manager to lay you off? They probably have a list and most people would like to keep their jobs. Good luck!
Honestly, you’re better off just staying until end of March, that way you get the bonus payout.
6 months severance is NOTHING, half will go to taxes, so that’ll leave you with maybe 3 months, and in this current job market where it’s taking on average 4 months to get a new job, that’s what I’d be more concerned with.
Then just quit. 6months - taxes. Leaves you with what? 3 months of pay? It’s really not worth it anymore
@a8 hopefully you don’t have kids with that mentality, and if you do, we feel for your kids having to deal with you.
I would be less worried about getting a layoff package and more concerned about getting a new job. The market is rough, unless you are at or willing to accept the lower end of the pay scale.
@a8+ you have no apparent grasp of spelling, grammar or proper capitalization, so I'm not sure where you get off being so critical. Many, many of our colleagues are fighting mental health challenges due to our ridiculous workload and the constant threat of lay off. There is no lack of self-respect in realizing your current situation at work, at home, or wherever is not working for you. You seem like a horrible person.
Really no self respect or Competance. If you are so much done belive in your competence & get a job rather then relying on company to lay off...Just walk off with Self Respect & find a Job.
