Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

Merit increases? Layoffs? Contracts?

How is it that a bargaining unit in New Jersey gets 5% a year for 3 years (plus a sign-on bonus of 1% each year for a total of 18%) ???
I got a lousy 2.5% ! Most people got 2 - 3%.
Obviously the New Jersey crime syndicate is alive and well in that union.

Are you all receiving that little? I work in Texas, was a low level employee for years and the lowest I got was 2.7 percent. This year I received nearly 10, I know you all are smarter than me. Are your group massive or what?. I've only been with the company 9 ish years.

@160 You must have ratted on a lot of people to get that raise. Brown-nosing pays well.

Looks like the layoffs didn't hit the union people. They will get to keep that big azz raise and the sign on bonus. The rest of us will swallow the lousy 2.14% knowing our bargaining unit counterparts got more than twice as much. And now, we don't get any more time off than they do. There is no incentive to leave the union to go to a management job unless your ego needs some st-----g.
But that good feeling is over in 5 minutes. LOL.

@5gk the current president was an elected. He backstabbed the previous elected president and got him thrown out. He did this with the company's help. Trust me, he's going to get reelected.

@jv Oh, we complain. Believe me. It falls on deaf ears because the union president is in it for the money and is manipulated by the company. General elections are the end of this year. We'll see what happens. All the union people are disgusted. Most are quiet about it, but, all are thinking it. Doubtful the current president will be re-elected.

@1ds You got stiffed and you're going to keep getting stiffed because you were part of the original ITT group. You remind them of a better managed time and they hate you for it. They just want you to go away. Your manager protects you from RIFs because he or she needs you to make them look good.
I would just do as little as possible without getting fired. The next time you see your so called leadership walking towards a banana peel on the floor, let them fall.

@1ds Why does the company call it a “merit” increase when 2% doesn’t even keep up with inflation? You know they increase USG bids by 3%/year and tell the customer it’s an annual adjustment for inflation. Just another example of how they say the workforce is doing a great job supporting the mission, then stiff the workforce, again. Those skimpy increases take their toll over time. Think about it. That’s the price you pay for dedication.

@160 20 plus years with the company. Spotless record. Never written up. Never had a corrective action. Been in Clifton through ITT, Excelis, Harris and L3HARRIS. I'm over 55 though. So I got 2%. They know I'm too old to be hired by someone else and too young to retire so there's no incentive to keep me here other than my situation.
When ever I go above and beyond, I feel like a je-k. My manager says he can't let me go.

I'm not tooting my own ho-n but this is a genuine question. I got a 4% this year. Largest ever for me. Its PB and SWE. I have over 10 years with the company. Just curious what it was like for others. What is the mean/mode for others in PB as SW engineers?

The annual ritual known locally in Clifton as the spring Purge is almost here.

@jv The Testers get paid more than the assembly techs.

@jt and all the testers do is watch stuff on the internet all day long and are never held accountable! I’m surprised the EMA techs that actually have to work all day long don’t complain to the Union president about this inequality.

@jg holds true for the EMA techs that build, but the testers are literally just button pushers and don’t deserve that raise at all. Maybe 10% can do basic troubleshooting and I mean basic, while the rest sit back and watch the support engineers do their job.

Operations, touch labor and testers are represented by the bargaining unit. The value is in the shrinking labor pool of the skill set needed to do the complex work of actually building the products. The people doing that work have proven to be the hardest to replace. And, in recent years, those folks have been leaving the company in increasing numbers. After the 2019 merger, L3HARRIS underestimated (and undervalued) the complexity of the work and the skill set needed to do it. This overbearing micromanagement drove people into early retirement and to other companies who saw value in them . The industry has no shortage of engineering and clericals who want to work from home. The real value turns out to be hands on , on the benches, on site, (even during a pandemic) working . . assembling, testing, repairing. inspecting and getting the products out the door on time.
That's it.

Not crime syndacite, but they obviously negotiated their contract well.. we had striker terms in our union contract a couple miles down the road.

Keep calm knowing the rest of staff got 2.5-3% raises.

Blame the guys in charge,

@a7 The union got what they wanted because the CWA is one of the largest unions in the country. They've got over 600,000 members and a lot of juice. When Harris first acquired Exelis (The former defense business of ITT) "Downtown Billy Brown" tried to muscle them into taking an offer of nothing or face a lock out. His minions refused to negotiate in good faith. The main union office in Chicago along with friends in the NLRB changed his mind. The union got a nice increase that year and for the first time ever, a cash sign-on bonus. The current local got a good increase because the Kube is a punk.

They bargained 5% because of the lay offs coming, the union isnt untouchable they will also lose people you are upset about a 2-3 percent raise while your colleagues lie to you about the 4-6% raises they received i know many who did receive more than 4 percent in non union positions, they are going to get rud of many people & if youre lucky you might still have a job count your blessings & be grateful theres a lot of people who will be jobless in a week or 2
