Has anyone heard if this lockout is going to have a negative impact for the company? It seems the topic has been quiet. I’m just wondering if anyone has heard any information on why they locked them out or what their plan moving forward is. It seems to be a lot of employees to replace.

@1ac Simply put there’s a reason people like you need to spend your own money to have grown adults represent you in something as basic as talking to your employer and boss.
Don’t worry, my teenager struggles managing his own life and sticking up for himself too. Luckily he still has the potential to become self sufficient and rise above hourly trap… unlike others.
Can’t imagine being decades into a “career” trying to pass off as an adult while still dependent on hired babysitters to manage your basic employment interactions.
@1d8 oh the union isn’t immune. They just stop hiring. 10 years ago there was 1200 hourly employees. Now there is 800. All they do is replace in house with contractors.
@1d4 the rest of the company has had ongoing job cuts for YEARS. It’s about time it reached everyone. Crazy that some people think they are special and immune.

Looks like the public gas and electric utility near Whiting has also locked out their USW union workers. What’s the common denominator?
@as I don't know why you think the salaried folks working it are getting 8 hours pay but I can assure you they are being compensated for their time. Most would rather not be doing this but they are being compensated.

The salaried people who are currently running Whiting are smart, motivated and getting paid very well. I expect the impact on bp to be small.
How about you go see for yourself. You got 800 employees locked out not getting paid. You got employees locked in getting paid 8 hrs. You got people quitting and people looking for other permanent jobs. The environment will never be the same in that facility. That’s 2 work stoppages in 11 years. BP said it will not negotiate with USW unless they take the March 17th offer, which is worse than the last, best, and final, that got voted down at 98%. In a lockout you cannot permanently replace the locked out employees and they can’t cross the line either. Looks like a few months of insanity. Just business as usual for BP.
