Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Sycamore Rumors and Changes

Things I’ve heard and seen posted on their sites. I’ve definitely heard about the remote workers being laid off if they don’t relocate, and the multiple support center layoffs. I’ve also heard about 2-3 days back to the office, not 5, but I guess we’ll see.

  • Removal of FTO
  • If you aren’t at Walgreens when bonuses (if we even get them) are paid out in November, you won’t get one.
  • Switching to Business Casual, no jeans or sneakers.
  • 10/20: Remote Employee town hall informing them to relocate or they will lose their job.
  • 10/21: 10% support center workforce reduction
  • January: 30% support center workforce reduction
  • January: 2-3 days in office but also heard it may go to 5 days in office

None of these "rumors" came true. I honestly feel someone is posting BS just to get people to quit. Anyone that can read this get let go for In Office 4 day policy yet?

Town hall invitations are usually sent out one week in advance. As a remote employee, I haven't received mine yet. The person who started the original thread doesn't have any insider info—they're just stirring up unnecessary confusion.

Please do not spread the rumors. None from the list has become true. I hope it stays this way.

@1e6 incorrect. They sold it but right after the sale decided to buy back 100/200. In the end they paid Pulte to take 300 off our hands. Worst deal ever.

I’m a remote employee and haven’t got any invite for the “remote” town hall yet. Have other remotes got anything?

@1e2 correct, they had already sold it to the developer that bought the 300 building only to have Wentworth reversed course and need to lease it back post sale.

It might not be false, maybe they are leasing the 200 Building. Didn't they sell it once and then had to either buy it back or lease it.

@1dz false. It’s one of the few remaining properties.

@18t Remote workers will have 30 days to relocate from Oct 20. But just a rumor if it even does happen.

Pharmacy has meeting today 10/6 with the new leader, but it's only a 25 min meeting. Maybe there will be some information.

So with all the rumors does anyone really know what's going on. We have a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday with maybe some more news or at least what direction we are going to take. Right now not really, just waiting to see what new directions we are going to take. The good news is they will still need people to run the place, some might leave but more will stay than leave.

Essendant another sycamore company just went thru layoffs like last month and they still have severance but it was apparently less than the prior layoff (January).

@1d0 Sorry. I was being sarcastic. I hope there's some severence but I wouldn't hold my breath. Private equity and Walgreens aren't known for their generosity toward employees.

@1cz how can you be certain? Are you in a position to know? Serious questions.

@1cv I'm certain Sycamore/Walgreens will do the right thing regarding severence as they work to optimize employee numbers.

So… do we get severance if laid off or is it the wild Wild West at this point?

@18t Which remote employees are they targeting? The majority Specially Pharmacy is remote. There are only 10 that are in Deerfield now.

@134 Sycamore is probably keeping quiet because they need bodies for the time being. Flu season, holidays, etc. It's been said that labor is a company's biggest cost. If that's the case, then I would expect layoffs will happen in the not too distant future. In pharmacy, there's already a continuing push for Cenfill and having customers manage their prescriptions through the app. Both are works in progress and leave much to be desired but are actions taken to improve efficiency and save on labor. It doesn't seem to matter whether customers like it or not. They'll just have to adapt. With private equity, the most important thing is return to investors. They aren't here to save jobs.

It would be pretty funny if they had to go lease office space in Deerfield after demolishing the 300 building and the Lake Cook offices. It would fit with in with all the flip flop start stop decisions people make.

@11r if this is true, the rumors of 2/3 days in office and layoffs might fix the space problem

The new leadership needs to be more transparent with their plans. People don't need to hear "Walgreens is the Pharmacy people trust. It's an iconic brand. It will be around another 125 years." The uncertainty ki-ls moral. There are people do the least amount of work to get though the days while they wait. There are also those who bend over backwards doing a bunch of busy work that make things worse because it's not planed out.

I know there will be comments about people should just leave, it's a horrible place, people stay because they can't find another job, etc. That's all be posted before no need to repeat it.

Also hearing that they are going to leave the OPO. I don’t think we could all fit in Deerfield so they have to secure some other office space

@pz My favorite is grape Kool-aid. I'm never going to leave until they get rid of me because Walgreens is the best I can get. I'm holding out for that fat severance that Sycamore is bound to give me!

I doubt the upcoming Town Hall will provide useful information. They will most likely introduce the newly appointed leader. It's only one hour long and 5 of them will talk for about 10 mins.

There is a Town hall meeting scheduled for 10/8. Perhaps some of this will be addressed.

@f8 Due to the lack of a federal mandate, many states have created their own laws requiring most employers to provide some form of retirement savings access for their employees. These laws generally require businesses to do one of two things:
Offer a qualifying retirement plan, such as a 401(k), SIMPLE IRA, or SEP IRA.
Enroll employees in a state-sponsored retirement program. These are often Roth IRA plans with automatic enrollment, though employees can opt out. Employers are not required to contribute to these state-run plans.

Sycamore did not cut the 401k match at Staples so they do not cut everything.
