My manager told me in front of my entire team that if I am so unhappy here, he has a replacement ready and I am free to leave. I was so stunned that I just said okay cool and went back to my desk. How out of line was that?

@OP I feel your pain. I was threatened with being placed on a PIP because I asked why HR policy and rules were not applied in the same manner and equally to all employees. God forbid someone ask a reasonable question at this toxic company with the expectation of getting a sensible response, instead receiving a threat as a response.
@1eq My manager also told me in front of my team that if I am so unhappy here, he/she has a replacement ready and I am free to leave, SO THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I DID. I WALKED RIGHT OUT ON THE SPOT. SEE YA!
@OP - This is workplace harrassment - follow your mandatory training - find it specifically on Workday and follow the policy and report it annon as you are allowed to do. Say you were present when this was done in front of the team and you are upset. "Other people can report their concern for another person" that will light a fire.

@1b9 I would advise not going to HR because they will side with the manager. You will be put on the riff list for sure. You need to fake that you like you job until you can find another. Your days are numbered.
@1b9 How can a manager have you on a PIP and not tell you??? That doesn't sound legal.... Not that being legal is anything this company cares about with their huge pack of expensive lawyers on staff....
I would talk to HR, he either has you on a PIP (CAP) or not, if he doesn't then he is stuck with you. But i'd talk to HR to ensure that you have this statement logged.
@qz I no use AI, Mr. washy-washy.
Manager: AI make fast. Why you no fast. You not using Ai right. Me: I don’t have access to xyz. I can’t use AI if I don’t have something to use it on. Manager: You use AI now. Me: 🤦🤦♀️🤦🏽♂️
@q1 There are plenty of lousy directors out of their depth as well. They are pals with their VP so they get a major pass. Ours couldn't do our job on their best day, but they are full of ways to tell us how substandard we are. No leadership skills only treat people like they are working on an assembly line. They have a new best practice every week.
With as many unqualified managers it’s no surprise this stuff happens. When leaders hire their best friends into manager roles this is what you get. The leaders get undying loyalty and worker bees get micromanaging bi--h babies.
@OP WOW what is up with management lately. The level of micromanagement has become outrageous. I have been "warned" or was it "counseled" that I need to determine member ethnicity and pronouns so I can serve them better? That should work well with an older member. Ma'am what are your pronouns? And "you sound caucasian is that correct? " That is the newest example.
Asking around and hearing stories of co workers being required to "prove" they are sick or why they were away from their computer for 11 minutes. Is this just going to get worse. Is this the way to get someone to quit?
@ag you should start taping every conversation you have your manager. Every single one - and tell no one. In addition you need a paper trail so hopefully you have dates, times, others present etc. While I agree HR is vastly clueless and unhelpful. Hard to dismiss a taped conversation. Check in your state via easy search if your taping is legal if only one party knows the recording is happening - that one person is you.
@OP That's probably what his wife says to him. Wouldn't be surprised if he's a cuckold.
Tell him to kick rocks and just ignore him. They are all de-lu-lu here.
"he has a replacement ready and I am free to leave."
it looks H1B is ready.
@ag With all due respect, I feel important to issue the oft-repeated reminder that HR is not here for us.
Unprofessional on your manager's part, but I'm super interested in the context that led to this rebuking.
Talk to HR- they are useless but maybe you’ll be able to negotiate a better RIF package or move to another org. Needless to say, you should start job hunting but that is probably true for everyone at Elevance.
The manager is a D.
