Thread regarding Follett layoffs

The CVS to Follett pipeline

I swear if one more ex-CVS Health exec starts working here, we should start doing flu shots in the course materials area.

Tell us you're filling the company with c-suite buddies instead of investing in the stores without telling us.

@1k5 Sarcasm noted. 😅 But it’s still a real issue. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@1GE - What did Charlie Brown say? "Don't you know sarcasm when you hear it?"

@16k Yes, Follett needs to adapt, but it’s important to understand the campus context. Most colleges have their own health departments, often funded directly through student fees. That means many services, like flu shots, are already “paid for” by students as part of their enrollment costs.

If Follett offers the same services independently, it risks creating a situation where students feel double-charged. From their perspective, the bookstore is part of the same university ecosystem, so if they pay once through fees and then again at the bookstore, it feels redundant and unfair.

A better approach would be for Follett to actively collaborate with campus health departments rather than compete with them. For example, structuring partnerships where bookstore initiatives complement or expand university services (rather than duplicating them) ensures that students feel supported, not exploited. That kind of alignment would not only avoid friction but also strengthen Follett’s relationship with the institutions it serves. Doesn’t that make more sense?

Honestly, flu shots might be more profitable than course materials at this point. We have to adapt!!!!!

Do you get to call yourself the CEO of your store? Hours worked ÷ pay = $6.25/hour?
