B4 tech mgr here, during a recent internal audit, HR department discovered widespread misuse of vacation time across multiple departments, including associates taking unapproved extended leaves, extra days not reporting to workday, overlapping PTO with sick days without documentation, or logging vacation while working remotely on company tasks.

Leadership has officially warned all managers to tighten oversight, and HR is now actively reviewing records with potential disciplinary action (up to termination) for violators. Going forward, every vacation request will be scrutinized, and any past discrepancies could trigger immediate corrective discussions , double-check your own records now and reach out to your manager if anything looks off before they come knocking. Better safe than sorry.

B3 manager here. Just ignore this scare-mongering and su-k up massively to your immediate manager. If you make them look good, it is VERY EASY for them to talk the HR tool off the ledge. ("But I NEED him/her/they!" "I can't do my job without their support!!" blah blah blah. Works all the time.)
(and if they have a hose of an HR partner, then your manager needs to turn on the waterworks and start sobbing. That positively freaks out any HR partner and they back off.)

Oh, and how do I know?

Because I do this every f-ing year. HR partners change all the time and sobbing makes them p-e their pants.

Go and enjoy your vacation.

Life is too f-ing short and we give too much of our souls subsidizing this multi-trillion dollar megalith with their multi-million dollar executive comp each year.

Here’s a neat trick if you actually use workday and have personal integrity not trying to get more than you are promised. Every paycheck has accounting for occasional illness you know what used to be 8 sick + 2 personal days and is lumped under single occasional absence for total 10. Their math is all sc--wed up they have shortchanged me more than one days worth of OI and the year ain’t over yet

@15f B5s don't have to enter clock in and out times for the day and lunches. we don't have that ability in workday like the B6s and B7s but vacation time, sick time, personal days are supposed to be entered.

If managers are missing that to the point where it's being misused then that's a direct manager issue

I don’t think that’s true about it only being a recommendation to enter vacation time. Band 3’s don’t have a set amount of vacation time, as far as we understand, everyone still has to enter the time that they are taking out of the office for vacation or personal.

If that were true, then what you’re saying would result in band 5’s always having five vacation days roll over.. honestly surprised they are just now reconciling this.

I hope this is true because some people have had days rolling over since the pandemic.. and if they don’t enter into workday, they will always have days that roll over and take more time than they are given, which means essentially those individuals get five extra days every year.

Because there’s software on your computer that tells them if you’ve logged on that day. If you did not log into your computer, but also did not enter a vacation day in workday, then there’s a discrepancy.

I hope HR is doing what incompetent managers will not. My manager doesn’t care half the team abuses vacation, coffee/pajama badges, and outright ignores emails from project teams. The rest of the people that show up have to still complete the work or choose to leave the team. When you wonder why architects take weeks or months and charge you 500 hours to complete a simple task, look at the managers that should be shown the door.

I am not surprised. My LOB micromanages every minute and move. I sit in an open office and I see others walking in at all times and leaving when they want. These folks should be behind a desk. It’s their job.

Officially, B5 are not mandated to enter time in workday. It's recommended but not required per the HR policy.
