Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Layoffs: Home or Office

If they were to do layoffs would they be more likely to do them when we were actually physically present in the office?

@16s, it was in Finance. We found out in June and were given 60 days (last day in August). 9 people. 3 found internal jobs. Hopefully they’re still safe after next layoff.

My team was told on a Monday morning via mandatory Zoom. At the time, we were in the office on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. I think they’ll choose zoom. Then they’ll mail you a box to return your laptop. I was given 60 days, but did not need to go into the office anymore once laid off. Good luck to you all. My entire team was eliminated.

@nz Exactly. Glad you brought it up because as a lurker myself, this seems to be the same person complaining about how some apparently are slackers; and maybe some are, but I can attest that the majority of TGT corporate employees aren't. How do I know that? Because it is obvious when you/me are working in the evenings (to catch up) or on the weekends (due to a deadline or milestone meeting with leaders being on a Monday morning) working and putting in extra time... you do see others with their "lights" on (Slack) or Outlook or moving around in Miro. I don't know what departments this troll you speak of is talking about, but my department is working to the bone, and doing with less staff and taking on more.

PS: I did know of someone who allegedly was spending hours in the gym while pretending to be at work, but he was the anomaly. If anything, working from home encourages being tethered 24/7. It even causes one to find it hard to disconnect (compared to being in the office).

@k3

I just lurk here, but I gotta say this need need by some to comment on the hybrid and remote folks' supposed work habits is an interesting hobby. Like, do you have a relentless 24/7 dedication to your company? Also, the responsibilities of some of these jobs can pop up outside of office hours, so what's the big deal about going to the bus stop? Unless the meetings are more important than the kids?

I'm really just not sure the point you or others are trying to make.

I am thinking it would be easier to hand someone a pink slip in the office. It could take days to track down a WFH Target team member. They could be walking a dog, at the kids bus stop, running errands or perhaps at a bar. Bwaaaaa bwaaaaa bwaaa

Doesn’t matter. I woke up 3 years ago and got a teams call to get the boot.

@a6 Agreed. You could be remote and be laid off. You don't have to be in the "office" to be given the boot.

What are you 24 or 25 years old? They'll getcha wherever you are. Just work as if nothing is happening. But will probably happen regardless if you are not on the frontlines

How would they know you’re in? I don’t think it matters.
