Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

When do we expect layoffs to hit?

Assuming they do the yearly style layoff of any size. When? September?

@14r

Had some fun working in Omaha back in the early 90’s. A co-worker introduced me to the band 311. “Omaha Stylee” gives me a chuckle every time I hear the lyric ”Got more funky styles than my laser jet got font”.

@vz+1jys0p6s9,

“Yellow People”, aka Legacy Sprint employees, ROCK!!! They are a talented group of employees who are truly making a difference. They were handed the reins and led the company in a new direction, at lightning speed. Congratulations, in advance, for another great quarter. Take a bow.📡📲🐎⚡🎉🎈🎇📈💰💵

@10r "38.4% cheaper cost of living in OP" and 99% decrease in quality of life. Without the KC Chiefs and KC Royals, KC Metro is Omaha.

Microsoft layoffs of 9100 announced today (4% of the workforce). 2290 of them in the Seattle area. These are not performance related but reducing "layers of management" as part of their investment in AI.

This will embolden Big Pink to reduce staff in PNW and move them to OP. Folks are beginning to realize that the 38.4% cheaper cost of living in OP and 60% cheaper home prices will get them to move or face the "Pink" slip.

@w7

You forgot to mention the Dividends. T-Mobile is able to generate strong earnings and maintain a strong financial position that outweighs the dilutive impact of dividends. Hopefully, if you don’t need the cash, have the dividends reinvested; Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP).

@q5 If the goal is to transform IT into a world class software engineering organization then all engineers should be working together, in-person, 5 days a week from one location.

And that's why the entire org will be relocated to OP.

@qd Over 40 are at risk. The average age of the Design Engineers in 2023 layoff was 50. The median was 50. Lots of high performers (me included) were axed, simply because we were deemed "too old".

@q5 “ Low performers are always at risk”. — That’s what I’m talking about! 😎🥳

You know there is no communication about this policy, since there are no performance reviews or individual development one can only assume they flag people for this. In my position my manager doesn’t give a flying F what I’m doing. This is not an exaggeration. He can go weeks months without a word and then only if somehow forced to engage me. I’ve accepted this but have grappled when and how they will deal with sub par performance. It can only be through layoffs. Just how a good cold hearted machine would do it. Eject that cog!

More shocked than bitter.

@b9 NPI = New Product Introduction. It’s when Apple rolls out their newest devices. Happens every fall.

I’ve heard rumor that IT will play the Amazon card and require everyone to work from a main campus or be asked to move on. Additionally, I’m hearing there will be a reduction in NTW headcount with more work going to FTEs. Low performers are always at risk.
