@169 is the digital team or video team still there?
@11g
Yes, reps are to provide their own car and will be reimbursed for mileage. Reps are now specialized--hardside, softside, B&E and do have larger territories as a result. This may be why you aren't seeing the rep you reference. A couple of DMs were cut. Marketing has been broken into various segments and given different responsibilities, and some long-time marketing people are gone or in different positions in the company. Product/editorial was cut drastically as well.
"Higher ed was gutted like a fish"
As a still somewhat-bitter former, I'm interested in more details on this . . .
I've read of fleet cars and gas cards being eliminated. Reps are expected to use personal vehicles instead. Is this true?
Territories seem to have grown in size. Using the Cengage Rep Finder, the same group(s) of reps seem to be covering a much wider geography than used to be the case - ?
I now work for a competitor. This spring, I ran into a Cengage Rep, which is a rather rare event! She was new, maybe three months into the job at that time. Now, three months later, she seems to be gone. I was surprised to see that Cengage had a new hire in what appeared to be an expansion role, now I am more surprised that this person is apparently gone. Make it make sense - ?
What seems to be going on in sales? I see the same old DMs in the same old roles, which is rather disappointing, given some of those personalities. But what is going on at the rep level?
For what it's worth, as a former employee I revel in negative news regarding Cengage, but at the same time I hate seeing people losing their jobs.
@d8 there’s already been layoffs at Cengage. Higher ed was gutted like a fish
@d8 I'm at McGraw in Higher Ed and haven't heard anything about layoffs. In general, we've been adding headcount
@dc these are not an Ed tech jobs. The quicker you realize that the better off you will be. A pretty static homework platform isn’t Ed tech.
@d8 Any info on the layoffs at MGH? Same as Cengage—predominantly sales and marketing? Or were there layoffs elsewhere in the org?
@d8 McGrawHill? wow! I was just thinking if I should try to find a job there. I guess it's the same nonsense in all Ed-tech right now. Do you mean another round at Cengage?
McGraw Hill and Pearson just announced layoffs, we should expect another round here as well.
Nothing unusual happened just another normal month/ year/day in Cengage if that is what you are asking.
