Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

2015 Chevron Layoffs

I see that many upstream companies and many oil service companies are being hit really hard in January 2015. Do you think if Chevron will be affected. We had good 2014 and I hope 2015 will be even better due to price spread between oil sources, so our profits might go up. Do you think that Chevron still might have layoffs in 2015?

Chevron is a dog eat dog company. Most in the CVX family do not believe in change even if some simple change could save the company millions of dollars. They just do not care about operating cost. This is one reason they are going to have such a big layoff/

Already happening. And, as always, the senior managers who drove the ship onto the rocks all have life rafts while the worker bees have to go down with the ship.

It's panic pure and simple, and Senior Management is never held accountable. Let's see...$20 BILLION in net income, and they are laying off and outsourcing to save a few million per year. The sad thing is many positions are being 'eliminated' then magically reappear in Manila or Buenos Aries (at a cheaper labor rate). For years, any Chevron employee who was severed or refused a transfer more than 50 miles away was given a severance; now, jobs are moved to Houston, and the employee can accept the transfer or refuse and get nothing. And Senior Leadership will get a huge bonus for cutting costs.

So, let me see if I have this straight....Gorgon and Wheatstone, coupled with the significant dividend, are sacrosanct but US employees have to lose their jobs for those mistakes. Has anyone been fired for $9BN in cost overruns on Gorgon and the installation tendon problems with Big Foot? Chevron management hasn't learned a thing over the last 30 years.

There were cuts announced in the Pittsburgh news today for Chevron layoffs due to reduced activity. Look for bigger cuts next month when the 2015 capital spending and quarterly earnings are announced.

It depends on what group you are in and where you work out of. In my opinion, Chevron will make cuts despite a good year in 2014.
