Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Such a relief i don't work for SLB anymore

I was laid off a few weeks ago...but contrary to being sad it's been such a relief...not having to walk into the office and do the same monotonous job every morning.

Not having to see the faces of hipocresy and incompetency of upper management and their noses is a plus...followed by all of the ass kissing and sucking up of my fellow ex coworkers who use their charm to be the favorites and move up the ladder. There are other companies that truly care about their workers even in these tough times...a family member of mine works for a smaller oil and gas company, and instead of chopping heads and letting go of valuable talent they dida temporary salary cut of 20% for all personnel including the CEO. Thinking back about the people that big blue kept is a little illogical...most of them about 80% of the group got there and spent almost 3 hours of their day talking in somebody's cubicle or office chatting about partying...making plans for lunch later in the week or just plain stupid talk that made the laughing to be heard throughout half of the building...not to mention the guy out of the group that acted as a detective and tried to be aware of the latest rumors in the group, why somebody's is absent and is always spending most of their time in the managers office trying to earn those extra points....I wasn't part off the group...didn't wasted half of my day in their conversations...or trying to suck up to my manager...even though I was let go off...I'm relief to be out of that work environment...but I do wonder how many of those suck up, time wasters or manager favorites have been left throughout SLB?

What industry do you work in?

It may be the largest service company but not a resume booster. In the US, Halliburton is much more popular. They appear to be treating people better. The industry that I work in do not even know what Schlumberger is.

I was let go right before Christmas to hurt me more. the discharge procedure is usually short and embarrassing. But felt a great relief when I got in my car. Becuase I will not be seeing anymore the corrupt maNAgement faces that most of the time are not confident. nor would I see their rats that ran from cubical to cubical to collect more info on their coworkers to bring it to their masters. Sometime s the masters feed them with cheese to increase the self morale and productivity. some are hidden, some are known; both groups are untouchable and dont usually get laid off. I think about my lay off and the company itself as something dirty that would take a long time to wash off of my shoe like dogs poop. But there is areliefe , the same relieve an honest spouse feels then finally divorces their infidel other half cheating for a long time. I have another spouse now that loves me and another job that cares about people and pays better. You should be ashamed of your HR and racially oriented managers. It seems like the hR major function is to protect the managers and thus the company rather than protecting the employees. What is the difference in writing RIRs if some of your managers are hidden racists? The latter cause more noncompliance I guess The only thing that they don't do is sticking swastikas in their lapels. Aside of the field personnel, take a look at the office personnel and tell what the ratio of minorities to the whole laid off population is? Why do you not publish these numbers? The highest paid employees except technical advisors are white folks. I don't not recommend this company MY RATING IS 1 STAR. RECOMMEND a website create to be able to rank employers similar to BBB ranking

I left SLB before the last holidays for the same reasons. There are some hard working folks but favoritism and ass kissing are the most common practices to keep the jobs.

I left of my own accord 2 years ago after nearly 14 years at SLB for all the types of reason you mention. I was worn down by the bullshit, the sycophants and the whole regime. SLB operate like a Victorian military unit and I doubt it will ever change. I now have my life back and work where the people are authentic. No it's not utopia but the work is infinitely more rewarding. Oh, and significantly better paid too. Good luck in finding something better, though by the sounds of it you already have.

Yeah I was let go and it was such a relief. I was in a position were I knew I was sacrificing to much in the name big blue and all its bullshit. I mean the company is a great company by principle but the people in it mess it all up. I couldn't just quit or perform lower than perfect to get sent home so getting laid off in this fashion was the only way I could leave slb and during the bs "meeting " I was smiling the whole time and was on plane within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the lay off. They told me in ofs1 that to work for slb is to sell your soul, well I just got mine back

Salary cuts are the way to go, there was a thread about it here a few days ago. I am sorry you were let go and I wish you all the best. I hope you find something even better soon. Godspeed.
