I was laid off in Dec '12 and it was a painful experience. I just got married earlier in the year and I was the most qualified in my department. All my previous years, I had excellent appraisals and a new manager comes in and I am all of a sudden I am not competent anymore.. Objectivity is thrown out of the window as many older/more redundant/less qualified staff were looked over at the expense of younger more qualified staff. The whole process was handled without any class whatsoever. Can you imagine that the HR manager walked into my office and actually told me to resign?? when I asked him why, he said no reason.. but that I should slip the resignation letter under the door (naturally I refused) and I was served a contract termination a few days later. Its all about Godfatherism and favoritism in Schlumberger... very few are left behind based on merit. Looking back 3 years later, I am glad it happened earlier, I have been able to pursue and complete an advanced degree and laugh now at a the antics of the managers in Schlumberger. If you are still in there i feel genuinely sorry for you and I suggest that you start looking elsewhere asap.
