Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Outsourcing

The other part of outsourcing is this: it simply says where the work can be done outside better than it can be done inside, we should do it.

"The accusations often incite Indian developers to jump in to defend themselves. Sri Rangan, a developer from Delhi, said he was offended by the Reddit thread, arguing that a combination of living conditions, education, and the country’s economic structure handicaps Indian developers so severely that they can’t be expected to compete with 26-year-old Stanford graduates."

"Charleston County filed its lawsuit against Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. in late 2006, alleging breach of contract, fraud and negligent misrepresentation, among other things.

The company was supposed to have software for the county's tax system up and running by July 2004, court records show.

But in March 2007, county officials said Tata's brand was riddled with errors and was unusable."

Yep, TCS is much better. They lost a class action lawsuit because they failed to pay promised wages and forced employees to sign over their tax refunds. http://www.lieffcabraser.com/Case-Center/Tata-Workers-in-America-Wages-Class-Action-Lawsuit.shtml Sounds like an ethical company to me. Fits right in with Follett's new way of doing business.

Thankfully we have TCS and other outsourcing lead vendor to fill in for Infosys if necessary. Always have a backup.

"An internal restructuring, a leadership vacuum, complacency towards customers, rigid contracting terms, and a stubborn high-margin pricing model have made recording growth at Infosys as difficult as walking on wet tar." (Goutam Das, Chaitanya Kalbag, 2013. Bussiness Today)

'Infosys is like any other Indian IT company now'"

"Indeed, the loss of key leaders, coupled with the exit of many senior executives over the past two years may have drained the company of both thought leadership and client relationships. Clients and competitors cite several examples."

Follett is one small gnat to infosys financials. They are the outsourcing leader with 15 billion in revenue each year.

Taking money from failing companies looking for advice does't led to sustainability. I hope profits are shared to all those millions starving in India, even if the company moves around to avoid paying any government taxes, helping it's citizens is the American way and we hope you adopt the same attitude for those in your homeland and not ignore them.

Smart americans. You fine us 34 million which is nohting. We made more off those visa's than the fine. And we are still here taking more jobs.

Infosys Ltd. provided them with written instructions on how to deceive U.S. authorities about the type of work they would do, and furnished them with inappropriate visas to lower its cost of doing business, federal prosecutors allege.

The technology company also entered numerous errors on forms meant to confirm its workers' employment eligibility in this country, part of a pattern one prosecutor called "systematic fraud and abuse."

By outsourcing your function management isn't saying they can get a better deal somewhere else. They're saying they'll get a better result somewhere else. They're demonstrating their contempt for their workforce. It IS that SIMPLE.

"Outsourcing may lead to failure in tough times ... and even in good". The team found that companies were more likely to fail when they outsourced components critical to their competitive position.

"Why Some U.S. Companies Are Giving Up On Outsourcing" (Forbes, 2013)

1) Failure to Meet Expectations

2) Desire for In-House Expertise

3) Highly Skilled Retained Organization

3) Visible and Modular Service Delivery

4) Marketplace Pressures

These changes (particularly replacement of experienced staff in favor of more junior resources) can translate into reduced quality.

Come on boys and girls, this isn't that difficult. Definition of capital efficiency: The informal ratio of output divided by capital expenditure. The larger the ratio, the better the capital efficiency. These are business decisions.

Whichever term you pull from your rectum it means labor is being screwed by management. This is ironic because management's lame decisions have put the enterprise is a jam and they're taking it out on labor. IT, call in sick. 1/3 calls in sick on thursday. Another 1/3 calls in sick Friday. The final third take monday off. The message will be clear. Labor is a partner not to be trifled with. 43390, you management scum. Be sure to report back to the other asshats that we're sick and tired of your CRAP!

Infosys, an information technology company from India, is opening a technology and consulting services center in Milwaukee for Harley-Davidson Inc. and other clients.

The company says it has signed a five-year agreement to provide services to Harley-Davidson, which is outsourcing some of its information technology work to Infosys.

The move means 125 Harley IT workers, including 83 in Milwaukee, will lose their jobs. Harley said they are eligible to apply for new jobs being created at both Infosys and Harley.

Harley decided to outsource some of its IT work because "there certainly are suppliers who can do this type of work much better than we can. That's the reason for it," spokeswoman Maripat Blankenheim said.

The important thing about outsourcing or global sourcing is that it becomes a very powerful tool to leverage talent, improve productivity and reduce work cycles. Outsourcing is outdated terminology, the new terminology is global sourcing reflecting a global economy and new opportunities.

Outsourcing is how the management team shows contempt toward any team who's mission is being outsourced. This time last year the coven gathered around the boiling pot and plotted how to outsource the jobs of their most senior customer facing personnel. One cackled and announced the problem is solved. They'd lay off 10% of their workforce and they'd focus the destruction at the group who had shown the greatest loyalty and devotion to their campuses and to Follett itself. They'd cut full time hourly employees and offer them 1 week of pay for every year in service for their silence and cooperation. What a great all hollow's trick! Then, they'd announce to the world that this group of dedicated employees were a problem because they didn't let the company focus on the customer on the customer's terms. The company would hire part time people without experience because they could do the job better. That, my friends is outsourcing. Outsourcing is management's way to show contempt toward their employees.

Follett isn't outsourcing because they will get better quality. They are outsourcing because they think it is cheaper.

Correct! Res ipsa loquitur! The numbers would speak for themselves. Why would MLS need to hire a hack PR firm to try to destroy this board if the outsourcing were getting the financial results promised?

Pathetic. CF & CT are you proud of your company’s leadership?

Outsourcing has been tried by many and due to failures and unexpected costs had been trending in the other direction NOT to outsource especially development.

“Outsourcing exec urges: 'Stop outsourcing your software development'

IT outsourcing head points to risks and hidden expenses of outsourcing. There is one underrated practice that can make a difference, however. (McKendrick , Joe. 2012 )

  1. Do not outsource your software development. The economics of outsourcing are far less straightforward than the labor rates comparison suggests.

  2. Losing financial ground: Overseas firm only charges you $20/hr for a developer. But how much value are you getting in that hour? How competent is that developer? Are you getting strong people on your team, or mostly recent college grads with questionable skill levels?

  3. No, documentation won't completely remedy this.

  4. What about the ability to put more bodies on a project? "Brooks' Law" is likely to take effect. This famous principle states that adding resources to a late project will make it later

  5. Don't forget the extra management costs you'll expend communicating with and monitoring the performance of your supplier.

“Five Reasons Why Offshore Outsourcing Projects Fail” (Kalakota, Robinson, CEO and President, E-Business Strategies, Inc.

Although the topic of outsourcing continues to grab headlines, the unspoken corporate code of silence on offshore outsourcing projects still holds relatively steady whether companies experience success or failure. A few companies, however, have stepped forward to publicly offer complete versions of their offshore outsourcing experiences. Their experiences reveal, as many have been quick to say all along, that offshore outsourcing sometimes does more harm than good. Below we describe the top five reasons why offshore outsourcing projects fail.

  1. Bargain Shopping - Selecting Vendors Based Solely on Cost

  2. Failing to Consider the Offshore Destination's Security

  3. Inadequate Upfront Planning and Expectation Management

  4. Nonexistent Internal Communication

  5. Poor Transition Management

Shift to offshore benefits can vanish and the costly surprises appear.
