Thread regarding Follett layoffs

The ball is rolling, no surprise.

A couple of employees last week, two IT employees this week (so far). Expect an acceleration in the next few weeks.

Amazon is coming to your campus. I'm hearing amazon buzz on my campus. Talk of not renewing contract. I'm not saying a word.

Current status quo blame others, take no accountability, hence no vision. The realization of the tide changing was years ago, the thinking still the same.

This is how Follett and BN survive. Paying the fox who guards the hen house.

That is an outlandish accusation. If I have a item and a buyer says I'll pay x dollars but the agreement is NO competition because that is my cash cow (student) instead proposes an agreement only on the terms that constraints were NOT made at the sacrifice of customers being able to share in the American free enterprise system and were on the basis of the sellers mission statement to think of their customer first may have resulted in sustainability. This would have been because it would have produced changes geared toward not trying to lock-in students but to give them the best service possible. This type of culture environment is what produces innovation. When is this leadership going to stop blaming everyone else for their lack of vision. And no outsourcing for the sole purpose of cheap labor is similar to the garment industries does not show visionary qualities it provides just what its goal was to go cheap which does not lead to sustainability.

Yes. Keeping paying the schools big rent and they are happy. They don't care about the students, just a big lump of money to spend as they wish which is outside the general fund.

Does this company believe it will retain US school contracts while sell/move its headquarters outside of the US? That is a ploy to not pay US taxes while receiving most of its revenue from US taxes in some form either directly or indirectly. That will sell well if at all. There will be a campaign against that.

Kate; you have now become my hero. When I realized what was happening to me, I got out, but would have loved to have been able to tell the regional (weasel) and the Director (wimp) what's little shits they are.

I heard the CIO, SS, speaking and calling certain consultant's work "shit". Right in the middle of a busy corridor, within earshot of several employees. I'm sure I few of us would testify to that, if needed for a lawsuit.

Mary Lee, I'm the woman in the elevator. One of the one-Follett associates. One day, I was in the elevator with you. A Follett associate, a smoker, had just left the elevator. Mary Lee, You looked at me, and said, Oh god, that was so disgusting, the smell...

I looked at you and said...I just quit smoking this week.

My name is Kate. I don't smoke. You suck.

You'll remember me for the rest of your life. Picture the moment in the elevator.

I see you. I know your Karma. You, my dear, suck.

@36055 = CNS is the only home office group not firing tenured employees and not outsourcing jobs. I could care less if the freaking phones work. They care about their team, their people, their investment. Their SVP makes SS shake in his shoes and shit in his pants. It's joy to see. And yes SS, I have seen you shit in your pants realizing that you don't know 1/100th of what the old Follett IT org knows.

by the way, check out the linked in Page for KMc's boss = its his fully updated

resume. For any Follett IT employees, they might enjoy seeing what he credits himself for accomplishing alone.

SS and ML have been clear and have not wavered that IT will be outsourced. Typical leadership decision making, they underestimated the amount of time to do so. All new project completed with offshore resources, CT converted to web by offshore company. There is no future in Follett IT. Whether it is six months or a couple of years, the end will come. They have proven that anyone can be laid off let alone if you disagree with their plan. Trust no one.

Cut n pasted off of KMC's Facebook today .....- I got fired today, I worked for the same person in the same company for 14 years, got an outstanding review this year and many prior, and got fired because I wouldn't trade my team's jobs for my own job security. Actually - the real reason on paper was because I told my boss in email that he was full of shit. Shit being the reason I am fired - swearing.

No severance - no chance for unemployment. Outsourcing is the rule and I am the rebel. Follett used to be a family business with 145 years history of supporting families in Chicago. That's the company I worked for.

The values of the new Follett - I proudly Do Not Share.

Yes - KMc - and - from what I've heard, for the guts to try, after 14 years, she got no severance, and a clear message that they'll fight any unemployment claim. She's a single parent with a kid in college. Her boss went into this with full understanding that she might end up without a job and without any buffer. He decided this outcome - and the reason - his friends consulting firm gets the cash - she was fired because he wants a specific firm to do the consulting that she could not work with. Period. He can walk around acting like he's one of the good guys - but the truth is out. The real message is this... people that should have had the guts, the balls, to stand up for the right thing, and were fully in position to point out the issues, ....just cowered in the corner while she got fired.

They are trading in house jobs for offshore jobs to save their own management positions. It's disgusting that a VP would screw his manager out of severance to look good to the top dogs.

Watch for the character assassination to start.

And don't count on the family or old guard to help. They are just as yellow.

Plan to outsource all IT departments. Retaining people now to cover apps and processes that haven't been completed, possible promotion just to keep on until the change over.

I would be willing to bet they are employees with more than 10 years experience and likely more. There is definitely a pattern of age discrimination.
