Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Na Na NaNa, Hey Hey Goodbye

“Which is why I don’t buy from the bookstore, or sell there for that matter,” He said. “99 percent of books I’ve had for classes are at least twice as expensive at the bookstore than on Amazon, even the cheap English books.

36738 this is ridiculous. Faculty on my campus are extremely concerned about textbook prices.

Based on George Washington university article, the schools don't really care about the cost of texts for their students because they get a large cut of that text sale. In fact Follett talks to the schools and then the schools talk to the faculty about publishing alternative textbook sources.

Follet has the misguided notion that the University or College is the customer. If they're made happy, they have a happy customer. It's tragically misguided.

Same here over and over, Chegg too. I can;t say if the students were buying more from Chegg or Amazon. The HBA didn't move at all. The cheap notebooks sold well.

Student told me today we are renting a book for $60 and she found it on Amazon for $18. Where would go to shop?

Not perception. It's reality. I don't drink the kool-aid

But the bookstore is higher priced. Textbooks and everything else we sell. I tell the students to go to Amazon. Just don't care anymore. Funny how upper management is now trying to counter the negative comments. Who else would?

Being competitive in the market place is important. Follett must fight the "bookstores are higher priced" perception.

.99 cent notebooks are going to save Follett.

Amazon is the way to go. That's all the students talk about. Follett missed that boat a long time ago.

I heard this over and over during my rush last week. I'm not defending it anymore. I told the students to shop where they find the best deal. Screw you follett! You will never ever compare to Amazon.
