Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Bully?

I guess I didn't realize this sight was only for those teammates pushing for a union. By attempting to bully me or anyone else off this site or any other for that matter is an attempt at censorship. Throwing out obscenities in capital letters will not shake me or cause me to bow my head and obey. Im sorry for anyone that has lost their job, inside and outside of Target. It's not easy to find a decent paying job out there for many of us. To be so ungrateful to the company providing teammates with a chance at making a living (remember we all make well over the minimum even at starting pay) just shows a persons stripes. I invite anyone that has an issue over my beliefs to feel free to approach me at work, on break, over a cop of coffee and discuss our differences as adults. To all and any eexecutives reading from this site I applaud your interest in hearing the concerns of teammates to afraid to come to you with their issues. Many fear that once they are known to be a "nuisance" that they will be fast tracked to the chopping block. I have myself voiced many concerns to all levels and have found (since I was a teenager) that when you articulate your problem in a cool manner it will be heard and thought about. To storm the gates huffing and puffing will be often times overlooked by the rantings of someone having a bad day. There's my opinion once again and I will not be afraid or bullied in keeping my views to myself.

Union is worth every penny, one $0.25 raise will pay for it for life, so go figure. Raises are always better when Unions are involved and management always thinks twice before they try to screw workers when unions are involved. Now, you go figure - what protects you when there is no Union around: NOTHING!

I spent 7 years with this company and worked in every Department and also held many back-up positions in the offices and dispatch. Let me say this, if you've been around 3802 for a few years, then you've witnessed the huge turn over in GL's. Target is in the position they are in because the let KIDS run the company. I would sit in the office and listn to wich bar they were all going out to after work or hear about their dorm parties at college. They have no leadership abilites what so ever and are on huge power trips with this leadership role they are given. They will never promote a veteran team mate, who knows they business unless they a four year degree. The best part is that the degree can be in dog grooming or basket weaving, as long as you went to school for your years. You need a Union to set this company srtaight. I'm currently a member of two unions, at both jobs I now work. Don't dring the target Kool Aid. They will get you better pay, better benifits, and a voice when Target does you worng. Union dues are not a big deal either. What you will save weekely in health insurance will surely make up for the 10 - 15 bucks a week it will cost to have a VOICE in this company.

honestly, would we be here talking about unionizing if Target has treated their employees fairly? No one want to see a reduction in their paycheck(union fee) unless they have to, in this case we have. Target mistreat their employees and that is why we're all here. If we don't take a stand then it will just get worse.

Ernie,

When you're in a public and anonymous forum some people can get carried away. We do appreciate your point of view. However, I don't think you realize what little we as employees of this corporation(or any other corporations) mean to the company. To the company we're just number, when the time come to cut cost management will protect their favorite instead of those who work hardest. One day you will get your pink slip and when you try to stay on and work your hardest you also realize it's a futile effort as they must make their cost number. It's cold but that's how corporation works. A smart company recognize hard working employees and reward them....then again a smart company wouldn't be in Target's position right now.

What a union will do is addressing running someone out of the company. It will provide one unified voice to people who feel overlooked by executives. The reason people want a union is they feel voiceless and abused. It may not prevent closing a store or a warehouse but it can provide fairness through a layoff. I have been through a target layoff and to be honest I can say politics and favoritism plays a part. I can honestly say I feel my former leaders didn't always have my best interests in mind or the companies when it came to layoffs it was CYA.

I have stated this before but to reiterate, if target makes a pyramid wide decision to change jobs or do away with them, a union will provide no protection. It is the companys prerogative to make decisions, none of which will they say this affects the pyramid except for T3802 cause they have a union. GE within the last year shut one of its plants down and moved it to Florida. Their union tried to stop this and assured workers they would not lose their jobs. Alas in the end they all did. Why? Because a union can no longer dictate how a company operates more than you or I can when it comes to moving positions or entire warehouses. Food for thought.

Everyone has a opinion on having a union or not to have a union, but us on B-2 are for the union. Cant u see the Target is slowly replacing long time employees with temps!!!!!! The company is going to what it needs to make it through tough times, so no one is safe. Target will find ways to get rid of anyone, whether ur a great worker or not, its all about what the company can save $ on. Aleast with a union also, us teammates will have someone to be there and see both sides of a story, vs ur by yourself and no one to defend u, it's like Hr, the Gls. and sgls against u. No one Is perfect here, but aleast with a union there will be order? just our opinion. I have a few friends that are not for the union also, But my feeling is this time the union is going to be here this time. and I do tip my hats of to u for being bold. u have balls for sure.
