Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

To anti-union team members

Some anti-union people have been posting on here stating that union would make it harder to resolves issues with Target. What they forget is that as a non-represented employees we have no weight behind our plea/demands.

Here's what happen when I tried to stay on with the company:

When they started giving me corrective action for very silly reasons(with in a span of month i was written up twice) I knew they wanted to push me out but I didn't want to quit so I went to HR and complained, HR folded their hands and said there is nothing they can do.

I offered to take a pay cut, I was with Target for 8 yrs, I know I make more than what they pay the new team members, they said that's not possible either. I offered to step down from my position to become a part timer, they said since i'm in the final corrective action that's not possible either. More or less unless I quit they will fire me.

I asked them that being that this was a force layoff would I be able to get Unemployement, they said that if the unemployment office call them they will just tell the Unemployment office that i was terminated for cause...basically not allowing me to collect unemployment.

Eight years of dedication to this company and this is how they treat me. Not even letting me collect unemployment.

You guys need unionize to keep sneaky corrective action from happening. Else they will eventually replace/out source all of you.

I saw a post talking about salary employees like we're not affected in this cut, Target is looking to cut cost by eliminating long tenured employees, whether you're salaried or hourly, both are affected. I'm a salary employee, I also tried to stay on when the CA started on me, then I realized that almost all the people that either was there or started at the same time as I have either quit, fired, or working part time, at which point I decided my time was up and found another job. I worked hard for this company, 45-50 hrs a week not including the works I brought home with me, as a salary employees we don't get overtime pay. When they set out to cut cost and direct stores to do so, it's then all about who's the manager's favorites are, if you're not on that list then chances you're out...sorry he has to meet the number. Bad leadership is why the company is where it's at.

Don't quit before you find another job. If the layoff is truly unjustified you can fight it in court for your unemployment. But you need to keep your positive reviews and document those discussions with Hr and your boss in email and print them out and keep them at home. You need to show in good faith you are either addressing concerns or disagree with the corrective action. No company should misuse corrective action to try and get out of unemployment.

I can see why you think a union would be good. But what about them people that come to put in thier time, and not work ? We all know some, thgoint to beable to hid behind the union to keep thier job? Don't sound fair to me, I have had my ca's I have lived threw them. Anyone that knows me and has worked with knows that I'am always walking the the of getting a ca. Also anyone that has worked with me knows that I will throw boxes if equp. needs to be worked. Union comes in and no more of that won't my UNION job to help the people on the floor. Going to make some people like they are better then to throw boxes, I have never though of any of my fellow team mates any different then mayself. If a Union does come in I still will feel the same as I do not,but won't beable to help you out. So think hard before you vote union in,get all the facts. I posted that Target would close the doors, and got a reponse that they wouldn't cause of the cost, that person is right, but don't you think that they will start looking for someplace else ,a few years down the road? And where else can we find jobs that pay as good as the ones we have now. Ok some of you guys are saying what the hell do I care,I 'am one of them Green guys that make the big bucks, has anyone tried to find a higher paying job in this area. If you have your lucky,I have run my mouth enough so just think on it hard before you go union.
