I was recently laid off from Avaya. The company went to great lengths to establish that no age discrimination was taking place. Yet they tried to force me to sign a release stating that I will not sue for age discrimination in order to get my severance payment. This is plain wrong in my opinion.

Age discrimination is rampant in corporate America, Avaya is not the only company that allows this to happen. I've been let go when I was in my late 50s, there was nothing wrong with my performance but I was perceived as somebody who is not fitting into (somewhat) younger culture and that investing in my development did not make sense.
