Another round for Engineering?

Engineering received an email late this afternoon stating work will begin to align national and local engineering and construction. They are to align with the “Plan, Build, Run model. Whatever that is? I assume it will be all given to contractors from start to finish. They claim completion for the transition/integration will be within 45 days. Sound like I will have a long summer vacation.

It’s odd that someone let the cat out of the bag about the new engineering and network implementation changes and then pulled it back a few days later. The email stated what was going to happen then the next one said nothing was set in stone and that someone had jumped the ball in releasing it.

Corporate directory was changed for about a day then redacted back to the way it was.

If our vision-less, uninspiring, tunnel vision, directors and upper managers want to replace our engineering and planning professionals with contractors who don't know the network and whose only incentive is to make it to next pay day, then they can do that. Because it's an incredibly bad decision, they probably will do it, and all of their bobble head lapdogs in lower management will tell them what a great idea it is. But if they intend to replace field techs with contractors after laying off company technicians, they will be in violation of contract language and can plan on facing the consequences. This is also an incredibly bad decision, so judging by their past behavior, they will probably attempt it also. Life in the management bubble is far separated from the realities of the telecom industry in the CTL sphere, and our latest "leadership" chain doesn't seem to be an exception from out past structure. When half or more of our managers and supervisors have Comcast for a local service provider, that should tell you something about the "team" running the business.

We had a meeting with Josh Many about a year ago and this very subject was talked about. He said that Walden wanted to do a turn key job on GPON and MOE orders for one company to design, build and install the orders. This affects more than just Engineering, it will impact the Techs that do the installs.

Was that a joke about local engineering? They are probably least secure.

We saw percentages below 20 on a lot of the

questions in Nevada, and wanted to know who the 13% that would recommend the company were. That didn’t change a thing, actually got worse, managers probably got rewarded for causing people to quit.

Local engineering should still be ok.

Wonder if that means Ethernet won't take 8 months like it had been the last few years...

LOL this sounds like another team used in the early 90's, they called it JIT or Just in Time Manufacturing. A little bitty problem with the thought. We are not Japanese and work 90 hours a week like then with no overtime. The material needed for jobs has a cycle time as well and we don't warehouse hardly anything anymore so if the Vendor doesn't have it when you order or it's a hot commodity then you miss your dates.

Then you have the scheduling of Contractors to do their job, then the problem is the Contractors don't do the Job right, then the repair and or fix the problem cycle, with fewer internal people, we won't hold the contractors responsible to repair it, we never ever do.

This all adds up to more stress, more Management brow beating their hourly to go faster, more people fed up and quitting.

This is all great for Moral as well, on all those surveys how many say they would recommend this place? I always see the number favorable. How is that possible ?
