Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Long term career at Mattel

Just curious - do any of the younger workers or newer hires feel like a long term career at Mattel is a legitimate option for them? Something to strive for?

I personally don't see it and can't wait to get out of here, but I'm sure my experience is not universal.

Over 50, early retirement.

Under 50, find another job.

Regarding this earlier comment....

“A lot of the mid to long career lifers should get with the program, long term employment anywhere is dead. Moving every 2-3 years is what you should be doing now. Do you see all the Marketing youngsters turnover. Career goals! They know either move up or move out. Even some of the Directors and above seem to try this and just end up, bouncing out to other opportunities.“

Haha, Hoho, Heeeheee 😂

I like HR’s spin on here justifying the slash and burn technique they’re using on the old farts. Just glad I’m not one of ‘em. Although that day will come but by then I plan on being long out of here and certainly not working for a toy company! Hell, this place won’t even exist by the time I turn 40 anyway

"Where have all the people gone who actually were concerned about the company's success?"

Maybe they got tired of waiting for leadership to turn things around and left for greener pastures, can you blame them?

Exactly how much career stagnation and financial loss should one accept out of concern for the company's success? At this point, everyone needs to be looking out for their own best interests. Good luck everyone, I think things are going to get a lot darker in the next few years.

Really? To me it looks like every fresh grad who lands here works their way through 2-3 promotions in as many years. And not for results. With the company bleeding money what exactly do they' expect to be rewarded with? It's like wanting to get promoted to captain on the Titanic. Where have all the people gone who actually were concerned about the company's success as much as their own?

Mattel does a terrible job fostering young employees and does not provide opportunities for career advancements. It does not reward success and hard work. It does not value it's employees. This is why you see so many young and talented employees leaving, not because "young people in general don't stay long in place of employment".

Young people in general don't stay long in place of employment. The 'easiest' way to may more money is to jump to other companies with your 'experience'.

Mattel is a wasted sh---hole at any year. If you’re not an a-- kissing, foreskin-twat of a man or a snobby-plastic woman in need of hormone therapy you won’t get anywhere. Look for another job in another industry. This industry is dead and the f---s that give out your paycheck are too busy raping the company pool with new titles every week to pay you what you’re worth.

If you're lucky enough to work at the Fisher-Price office, you effectively are forced into a long term career simply because there are virtually no alternatives in the grim rust-belt economy of Western New York. This is doubly true if you happen to work in Design, good luck finding another toy design job that doesn't require you to relocate. Many FP designers would like to leave, but for a variety of reasons many either can't or don't wish to move, and so here we sit, toiling away the years in a state of quiet desperation, wondering when our ticket will come up in one of the impending rounds of layoffs. Some do get out, but it takes a person of action and initiative to take that leap and GTFO.
