Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

More layoffs

Well in typical Oracle tradition no warnings, just a tomorrow is your last day. 4 gone in a group of 9 spread across 3 sites. Honestly happy to be out of the morale k--ling atmosphere. Nobody is safe, 2 of us have a combined 40 years with Oracle. They actually had the nerve to ask us what projects we're currently working. Well guess what, not our problem any more. Y'all can figure it out.

If still with Oracle, keep looking for other jobs. Oracle doesn't care about anything but itself..

@camethroughdrippin: what is OMC? Where is it based off..HQ?

Oracle Management Cloud, virtual people all over but good number of them are on premise in CA still

Too bad we can't use it to manage the company instead of the tools & fools we have now

Best career move ever made for me by someone else. Been out of there almost three years and in my new job. My worst day at the new gig beats any best day I had in that place. Outside of getting to know some really great folks it was actually a bad time, especially the last 6 after Oracle bought Sun Micro.
Does the adage ‘boiling a frog’ mean anything to you left there?

I'm sorry you were RIF'd. BUT. Once the shock has worn off, get up off the ground, dust yourself down and get to it. Plenty of on-line certification sites, so brush up on some skills, shore up any gaps you might have and get back out there. You can do it. I did. So can you. there is life after Oracle and it is usually pretty dang good.

Rampant age discrimination. Old people... old tech yuck... layoff

Looks like grey hair and experience is seen as something bad at Oracle.

I feel for you. Half the team was destroyed. It wouldn't take much to warn people that this could happen. A little heads up would be nice.

Project melt away is slowly taking effect. Never ending unexpected small layoffs... drip drip drip.

Could be anyone. Could be any random day. What a wonderful work environment

What group in Austin? And was it 4 people?

@ZZRcQT3-ihs Right. Strangely enough, the concept of "garden leave" where you get weeks to months notice is standard operating procedure in most European countries. Including leaving network access in place. Never heard of anyone destroying anything.

The mindset of some these people is just mind boggling - destructing employee, have to cut off your network access and send you home - where does oracle find people like that. I’ve seen lots of people laid off with 4 plus weeks notice at multiple companies, and guess what none of them destroyed anything and nobody had to cut off their network access and send them home. The mo--ns oracle hires these days ....

What difference would it make if Oracle had said "We're riffing you in 2 weeks"??

You'd still be gone and they'd have an angry or destructive employee running around the office. They'd have to cut off your network access and send you home so you didn't destroy anything. I think it's better to be prepared to leave at any time and never count on Oracle to have your best interests in mind. You control your career and should plan what's best for you - don't let Oracle run your life.

I'm sorry you're surprised by the layoff but REALLY? No one is "safe" - what does that mean? Of course no one is safe from a layoff, why would you be protected? Oracle does some crummy stuff to employees but layoffs are normal and should be expected at any time. This isn't your grandpa's IBM with a life time pension and guarantee to work. Especially if you're in a job for more than 2+ years, you should expect to have scrutiny and always have an exit plan. Nobody is safe unless you're the one making rif decisions. Take it as an opportunity to improve your career and find something new to do, it may surprise you that there is life after Oracle and it's much better on the outside.

This isn't news and if you have over 20 yrs experience between 2 of you - then you're both lacking in common sense in how today's companies view staying at the same company for over 2-4 years. It's not a benefit to stay at any company that long, you're seen as laggards, scared to innovate, no confidence to improve your career. If you aren't moving up the chain and increasing your value - who would want to keep you around? Oracle doesn't care about you- never has and not likely to start now. It's a business, not your neighborhood softball team. They don't care about your wife, kids or dogs, they care about making money and will do anything needed to keep money coming in the door. BTW, all you people who post Aria profile pictures of your babies, wife or dogs - don't. You look unprofessional - I'm trying to find your contact information and couldn't care less what your drooling baby looks like.

Sorry for your loss. But I was laid off twice at different companies and there was no warning.

And you were there for 20 years? Were you expecting a till death commitment?
