Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Negotiate your separation package

I was able to negotiate my separation package to something way better than what was offered. I think everyone should try to negotiate.

@ZPYIm45-1hea I'm no where close to retirement... 30 more years before I can retire.

If I can negotiate 26 weeks of full pay and giving up the health benefits then I will gladly take it instead of the supplemental pay they are currently offering. After 21 years of service, this supplemental pay in addition to unemployment benefits is a slap in the face. I’m just a bit worried about what is mentioned that in doing this negotiation HR may just decline giving any severance package. Can they actually do this?

When I was laid off the severance package they gave me was 26 weeks of full pay and benefits whether I find a new job or not. I was at Anthem for 18 years. My understanding was they give you 2 weeks severance for every year you were at Anthem up to a maximum of 26 weeks. Has that changed?

What I was offered - 26 weeks of supplemental pay after unemployment. 50 percent of supplemental pay if I find a job.

I said I will not sign the waiver. After dedicating 15 years of my life, I deserve a better package. After some back and forth, HR agreed.

What I negotiated - 26 weeks of full pay. pay will continue even if I find a job. Health benefits will stop though.

You need to be willing to risk loosing the severance if they do not agree. Your only course of action after that will be taking a legal route.

What leverage did you have? The package they offer is a take it or leave it thing. Unless you had something they wanted, they are not going to stray from it or else everyone would be trying to “get more”.

Unless you offer more details, people will be forced to consider your post as totally false.

And you could impact other people’s ability to get the standard package. Not cool.

Yes, I would like to know myself. Were you a manager, director, VP, or a peon like the rest of us? When I was laid off I was basically told here is your severance package, take it or you get nothing.

Yes ... details on what to ask for would be nice, otherwise your posting is just a waste of time.
