Really? You have to ask the question. How come the vacant SM jobs always seem to go to outside hires?
Surely the region has talented people who can and are able to step up the role?

I just delete those ‘sales’ emails, not helpful at all
Except to see all the red.
Is it current or from 2 months ago? Lol
Yep, off to the mall to recruit gamestoppers, maybe I’ll do a little shopping, get a pedicure, etc., what rush?? While waiting for ess & adp to work so all the on boarding could be completed.
You mean none of the store managers dropped everything they were doing to go recruit Game Stop employees?? Shame on you hahaha.
Yeah, new stores understaffed and this from the expert in hiring.
Perhaps GameStop didn't get the memo?
Isn't this the time of year when no one can take time off, especially the RM? Asking for help at other stores but she's nowhere to be found.
So, are the new SMs outside hires or promotions from within?
When someone texts you requesting info & you respond, wouldn’t a simple thank you be appropriate? No manners needed for RMs?
Oh, how? For being a pro at hiring why are stores still without SMs? And new stores short staffed?
Hmm....it seems like someone has been told to shape up.
In a changing and perhaps declining industry, you need new confident leadership to ask the veterans in the industry “why?”. And, then based on collaboration with the experienced veterans make changes based on changing times; changing product and customer expectations. It is necessary to continually evolve or risk being left out and passed up by competitors both new and old that are brave and willing to take risks to change and keep up. Having said that, you need the “right” new leadership who is capable of learning industry and through collaboration make innovative changes. However, they can’t make changes in a vacuum without a thorough understanding of industry.
An external hire with zero industry experience should never be put into an RM position or above without time worked in a store. The uniqueness of our industry requires insider knowledge. I was a SM and after a couple years moved up to RM. Without this hands on experience, more damage will be done inadvertently. This is a naive and short sighted decision. Get out now.
Well, it seems whatever the reasons for letting the previous rm go the region itself wasn't in such a mess as it is now.
How on 🌎 the gvp also thought an outside hire with no prior experience in this field would work at this level beggars belief.
The problem is that the gvp will most likely never admit that a huge mistake was made when trading an excellent rm for this one.
The overseeing should be the GVP’s job & HR should red flag something, maybe?
Well, that was the strategy she gave for recruiting so it looks like she practices what she preaches, unfortunately.
Again, it's back to the question of reluctance to promote. She brings in managers who know "retail" or "gm" which, as we know, is all well and good but this is not regular retail. It then falls back on the store staff to keep the store ticking over unless you have a smaller store with no staff and no one to train the manager...that would be fun.
Also, it seems odd that no one has noticed or queried the constant SM job openings in this region especially over these past few months.
Wasn’t that sm a long time employee & former rm? Who should have been kept as rm.
Seriously, the timing couldn't be better.
Well played, well played!
How many is this now in the past year alone?
And, another one gone...another one gone...another bites the dust..!
The question is, how many more?!?
Not almost. You might be getting responses now from your emails from 2 months ago. Still keep Gvp on cc's.
Probably GameStop. But let's all go help the gamestopper in the flagship store. Lets also go help the other store that took forever to transition by our Rm game stopper. Why weren't more people hired while she was in charge of the transition?
Wonder where the new person for the store has been recruited from if he/ she is an outside hire?
So no sm in store, think rm would call to check on the staff?
After 5 emails someone finally responds?
What an absolute joke.
RM too busy with new store to care about the rest of the region.
After 5th email, received call from gvp asking if rm ever responded to my questions, no, gvp asked not even to the rm email request at a certain time & day? Rm never called at time & day rm requested. What more can I say. Gvp did answer my questions. Hopefully rm lack of communication & irresponsibility is noted.
Yeah, and can it be done quickly before any further damage is done?
Asking for a number of hard-working people.
If anyone has any contacts in the ivory tower have them take a look at these posts.
Looking at the posts on this thread and some others it seems a lot of contributors have no confidence in the rm so what, if anything, can be done?
If the rm is still so concerned about Gamestop, why doesnt she go back there and let the professionals run this region the way it was before she got here and tanked it?
Gotta feel for the gamestopper who figures that a college bookstore company has to be more secure. After all, universities don't go out of business, right?
Gaming may be the only industry hit harder than the college bookstore business (OK, music distribution had it worse). Given the music model, why aren't they recruiting old Tower Record executives and store managers? Perfect fit!
That was a pretty funny suggestion, stop placing text adoptions & go to the malls to recruit GameStop employees whose hours are getting cut. I was cracking up. Stop hiring GameStop people to be store managers who know nothing about the business & promote from within.
Oh, how about returning phone calls & emails.
I agree but who would you send it to? The president doesn't probably read letters from the mail. Again i think after that enlightening huddle call telling us to take time off from work to recruit from Game Stop needs to be emailed to the gvp and vp of retail ops. I'm not a sm so i can't.
So it would appear that more stores are requiring SM's and the dear leader claims she is getting good at hiring...pity she's not as good at keeping staff.
Hey, you can always recruit from "Gamestop!"
Time to up the ante.
Mail the Ivory Tower and make them aware what is happening.
So what can be done about this? Sm’s have left, contracts have been lost. Who’s monitors the situation?
I would, he responded to emails, would actually call to help solve issues, if he wasn’t sure would direct to someone who would. And he had actually worked in a store, so he understood the business. Still don’t understand why the change.
Would you like the previous RM back?
Sent 3rd email to rm & gvp, see if any response comes back.
Seriously, what does the gap know about getting ready for fall rush? Except what is dictated to them. When was the last time any gbp bothered to help at setting up for rush: getting adoptions, receiving, begging for late adoptions, sourcing for books, setting up coursetags, begging again for adoptions, setting up course tags, again because if price changes, oh hiring & training staff, looking for good staff, no one wants to work for $8.25 anymore, & repeat everything above.
They are clueless about what it takes, but take time away from our busy to listen to some directives🤪🤪
What conference call? There haven't been any since June in 41.
"I can't be bothered to answer your emails but do take the time out of your busy schedules to join my conference call so we can see how we're all getting ready for Rush."
Really...?
