Really? You have to ask the question. How come the vacant SM jobs always seem to go to outside hires?
Surely the region has talented people who can and are able to step up the role?

Then send the email chain to the vp of retail ops. This needs to stop.
Sent 3 emails to both rm & gvp, no response from either
Just plug illinois in the quad search for store search and you will know.
Names aren't allowed but just have a browse on the Quad you can easily find out from there.
Um, didn’t we just have to sign off on the illegality of having team members work off the clock?
Sounds like an impeachable action.
How many of your employees that you sent to help wheaton get paid, since the rm didn't submit the sign in and out sheet she made them fill out? How many of those got follett values? The rm did.
What other store has sm opening?
Keep bombarding the gvp with bcc's on everything you send to the rm untill she addresses the problem. Apparently gvp has no clue how useless the rm is.
The responsibility should fall on the gvp, again I ask what does a gvp do? When the company is struggling why have rm’s & gvp’s? Seems like a waste of $$$$. When I email the gvp I’m told the rm should help with issue at hand, LOL
There’s another store manager opening in the region.
So...what does the job of RM entail?
Because it sure doesn't mean answering calls/ emails from stores & schools or store visits or having any valuable input for anyone but hey, send the useless emails saying who hasn't completed which online training!
A year in and this ship is rudderless.
Yep
One rung.
Have to figure it out yourself. Identifiers are not allowed here.
Assuming "you know who" isn't Voldemort, who is it?
Any initials or how much further up? One rung up the ladder or higher?
Thank you in any case for the advice.
Bcc the gvp on everything you send to the rm. When you get no response do it again and again. Create a file for all those unanswered emails. Just like the latest sm's to leave, forward it all to the gvp. She has no clue what's going on. If that doesn't work take it up a notch to you know who.
So...what's the solution?
Seems this point is being made time & again but is there anything realistically that can be done?
Our rm won't even respond to e-mails or calls, let alone take on more stores. That's the definition of an epic fail.
There’s only one GVP that’s worthwhile. On another note, I heard an MVP this week suggest going back to RM’s covering a wider range of geography and being assigned stores by volume. It has been a long time since we did that and the cost to the company is outrageous. Just another example of MVP’s being out of touch. It’s a terrible idea.
Hmmmm...drums fingers on the desk....Can I think of any useless GVP's?...thinking, thinking....
The GVP role is essentially worthless other than to be a “status” level point of contact for some of our elitist business contacts. There was a point it was being considered to just eliminate the GVP role overall and have only a couple that would handle those prestigious campuses that required it and the RM’s would all report directly to the SVP of Ops.
Again I ask, exactly what does a rm & gvp actually do? Why are both positions needed? No support given to stores from them, emails take forever to be answered & when they are sm’s are told to deal with the situation here’s a phone # or look on the quad.
So did another SM quit?
Did anyone hear anything further?
follett was doing this when you were 6 years in and 55 years old. They did it publicly and forcibly. This isn't new and it isn't isolated.
Labor lawyers won't touch this if there isn't a memo stating this is policy. While it's clearly age discrimination, if an attorney won't invest time in the case, it doesn't matter.
To those who are approaching their 50th birthday and to those who have 10 years in with follett, you have an expiration date. follett gets to choose it, but you have an expiration date. Best of luck with your future.
Pretty cold response from the company based on these interactions. For those out of a job, a couple thoughts. Have a pro update your resume. The economy is rocking so there are lots of jobs. Go find a company that values you and gives you a fresh opportunity. Good luck!!

From where?
Is it true another sm up & quit?
But don't worry about the family, they pay themselves first.
And Senior management is looking after their wallets first too.
Sorry, you're old. You SHOULD retire.
Same here age 60, 12 years. Ivy lost contract and no answers what-so-ever from HR. No job opportunities to transfer to or worth applying. Pretty much f. Unemployed
I think it's both age and seniority. When they lost the contract with Ivy Tech they never told us about other opportunities at other stores in our region even though a store reached out to us looking for the qualifications I had. The interview went very well and when I contacted her on my last day she said she was still waiting for the ok from her new regional which happened to be my current regional. He looked me straight in the face and said good luck on your future. I turn 60 tomorrow and I worked for this company for 11 years
Age discrimination?
Gvp is part of the problem. It needs to higher up past jh.
Seeing is nothing how about some action by the gvp to stop screwing long term dedicated follett employees.
There is something seriously wrong here that needs addressing.
There is a common denominator and it doesn't take much to see what it is.
We see you...!

Oops! Where is region 41 located?
Where is region 25 located?
Apparently Game Stop employees have more talent and experience than us seasoned vets.
