Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

How long do we have?

What do you think, how long do we have before severance is no longer an option? It has been shrinking through the years, so much so that I’m certain at some point DXC will simply decide to no longer provide it for people they are laying off.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s at their discretion whether they want to do it or not. Which means it’s only a matter of time before they don’t.

There are several scenarios where an employer may be legally required to offer severance. One of them is if they led their employees to believe that they would be paid severance which is evidenced by a history within the company of giving severance packages to other employees that are in the same or substantially the same positions. My read on this is that it would be difficult for DXC to legally stop offering severance while the RIFs continue.

DXC avoids this in the US by having 'at-will' employment. Basically, you don't have a contract, and they can pretty much change the deal at any time, for any reason. If you don't like the new deal, you can quit...

I was ex-EDS, ex-HP, ex-HPES, They essentially cut the severence 'agreement' from (I think) 2-weeks + 1 week per year, with a maximum of 26 weeks, down to a maximum of 8 weeks. Anyone with more that 5 years basically saw their safety-net chopped up and discarded. They k--led contributions to our pensions by shuffling it to HP inc, while 95% of the employees went to HPES...they tweaked the 401k so they only paid matching funds once a year rather than once a paycheck, or once a month, or once a quarter...

Based on past performance, if this company put as much effort into delivering what they sold and keeping the customers happy, as they do on cutting costs by screwing over the employees, they'd be leading the industry...instead of being its laughing stock.

Some colleagues and I were discussing this just last week. I think that by the end of September 2019 it will be cut to 4 weeks (max) and then after December 31, 2019 it will be cut entirely. There are a few of us (who are looking for others jobs!) who are really hoping we get let go by the end of August (assuming we don't get another job in the meantime).

I agree, the flex vacation was a taking away a benefit, not giving one.

Depends on where in the world you work and what your contract of employment says.

Here in the UK there is a statutory minimum that legally companies have to pay when they make someone redundant . Many companies choose to offer more generous terms as does DXC. DXC COULD choose to pay statutory minimum; it wouldn't be popular but IBM did this a couple of years ago.

Also, some fortunate employees have redundancy terms written into their contract of employment. In these circumstances DXC is legally obliged to pay the terms in the contract.

Won't be severance for much longer. The move to unlimited vacation, was "sold" as a benefit to the employees and a selling point to the green new hires. The older people know/knew it was just a way so they wouldn't have to pay out vacation in severance. If you are young and reading this, unlimited vacation is not a perk.

They may cut out VR programme and just go for CR reduction or layoff by other means such as sacking if your / employee's performance fails to deliver.
