Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Who is happy with their work here?

I'm not challenged. At all. I feel like my job is now strictly about fixing other people's mistakes in outdated areas that should have been upgraded or completely replaced long ago.

More than ever I understand people who are deciding to leave on their own.

Is it just me?

I'm comfortable here. My salary kind average but got lots of stock options for the last 10 years. The work is easy and management thinks im a performer because i know all the tricks on how to get it done with no effort for them. I also coded like a dog for 10 years but I'm done, i want to use my neurons doing other things than coding useless products. Im happy, ill stay put as i think its easy money which I'll s--- from them just like they did with me for the past 10 years. If they RIF me I'm cool with that and the package of get.

What's the definition of happiness to you? For me learning, improving myself daily, spending time with family etc define happiness.

Simply put: if you are not happy with work, the find better work and move on. It might take some time to find the right work..but that's OK. Oracle gives plenty of time, we can make use of this time in our advantage. Learn, upgrade skills, get trained, go to gym, spend time with family...eventually you will be happy :-)

unfortunately it is just you. else more would be motivated to leave. oracle doesnt have a turnover problem, they have a ppl camping out beyond their welcome problem. the irony is if more employees were unhappy and moved on, then there would be less layoffs.

I am pretty happy. I've been at the big O for over 20 years - sales consultant. I could retire tomorrow, but what would I do for excitement?

No, you are not. I know more than one who feel the exact same way. All of them are less than 2 years from retiring with one less than 6 months away, so they hang on. He is hoping to get hit so he can coast until October when he can start to collect.
