Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Is now the right time to abandon ship?

I’ve already decided, updated my resume, started applying, eve got a few interviews scheduled, but I wanted to get some other takes on this. In my head, I don’t see anything good happening at Xerox, so why not take advantage of the situation and try to get another job before they cut me, or bully me into rebadging to HCL.

I voluntarily resigned after 31 years. Found a job. 30% increase in pay. Benefits comparable. Small company growing exponentially. Couldnt be happier. There is life beyond. A much happier one. Good luck to everyone.

IMHO, as long as you are not invested in a XRX pension plan you have little to lose by waiting it out. However, practice due diligence and keep looking for other opportunities with better benefits, job security, and perhaps better pay. You owe it to yourself.

Former GIS employees are resigning daily. They have been lied to enough by XRX and HCL has been embarrassingly bad thus far. XRX management probably picked them because they were the cheapest and there is a reason behind that - they are a joke. The job market is great and people are speaking with their feet and walking away. So that is creating jobs to fill which is ironic.

Everyone has a duty to prevent fellow Americans from getting involved in this s-show. How? Go on Glassdoor and write an honest review on how great your core was BEFORE Johnnie douchebag and Icahn wrecked it. Then say how it's been during the last 3 months. 401K? smoked. Benefits? C-ap. Raises? Frozen. Terminations of key personnel. And of course the arrival of the HCL brigade of nincompoops who can't even get a freaking conference call to work right. All preceding what everyone knows will be our execution in the near future.

There are no right or wrong times to leave the ship.

Some people may have milestones they need to reach if they have been here long enough to have a Xerox pension, where leaving early result in hundreds of thousands of dollars difference.

Some people may have skills that allow finding a new job easier, so staying at a job that you still like makes sense, even if the future is fuzzy.

Some people may have been at Xerox long enough that their pay and vacation are higher than they could find elsewhere, so riding a sinking ship down may be the best option for now.

Good luck to all.

After all the negative things that have happened since the layoffs began in August, I'm surprised anyone has to ask this question anymore. I understand the trepidation of leaving what might seem like a comfortable spot at the moment - if any of those are still left - but everyone should recognize and react to what's happening around us.

Xerox is a dead person walking.

Everything "Johnny V and the Job Busters" are doing is to get Icahn his desired share price. That's it.

They aren't positioning us for future growth. They are making cut after cut to decrease expenses. When you have a dying business, you might be able to goose profit for a short time by cutting expenses, but revenue won't grow so the stock price stays flat to negative. So the only way to get the stock price up is to split off and sell the parts other companies want.

Get prepared, and get out.

Now.

Then you can be in a comfortable position somewhere else when the implosion finally happens.

It's always easier to get a job when you are already employed. It never hurts to look. Don't bad mouth Xerox to a potential employer, just say that you are exploring opportunities. Good luck!

I’ve updated the resume and applied for a few things. No interview yet. I am not sure what I want to do. I don’t want to work for a large corporation again. My approach to my job and life may change after al this. Mostly, I’m just waiting...
