Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Too much uncertainty and negativity

I recently quit Oracle IDC after spending more than a decade there. I can say that I learned a lot and look at my time at Oracle favourably.

Towards the end there was too much uncertainty and negativity. The learning also stopped and it was time to move on (before being asked to go!).

I think there are too many engineers just getting by and not pulling their weight. Most have lost the will to learn and innovate. IMO an overall shake up is required at all career levels in IDC and not just directors and VPs.

Further, In the current state of affairs in Oracle India it will be difficult for Oracle to retain/attract good talent. The only talent that will remain in 3 months will be the not so good ones.

This is a repost from @YgdZ6FY-vga .

"It will be replaced by many, many layoffs to come. Oracle revenue will continue to go downhill."

blah blah, blah, blah.

Keep on beating your loser drum.

This layoff, like many other things, will be forgotten.

It will be replaced by many, many layoffs to come. Oracle revenue will continue to go downhill.

Money (as usual) will be the sole driving factor for talent.

This is not true. In engineering there are a lot of people who are motivated by working on interesting projects or working with nice people who aren't going to back stab you. Money brings in certain types of people who are interested in that, but my experience is that those people are generally corrupt.... trying to get something for nothing, etc.

"The only talent that will remain in 3 months will be the not so good ones."

You're assuming the layoffs didn't target some of those.

You can say the same thing about Oracle engineering everywhere:

I think there are too many engineers just getting by and not pulling their weight.

The only talent that will remain in 3 months will be the not so good ones.

Towards the end there was too much uncertainty and negativity.

Wow, an honest assessment. And a happy ending with no bitterness. This is what a mature adult looks like, folks.

But I disagree with your opinion for talent. This layoff, like many other things, will be forgotten. Money (as usual) will be the sole driving factor for talent.
