I keep reading and hearing about people who either left on their own or were laid off who managed to find new jobs - better jobs, at that - with no trouble whatsoever. Yet, I've been looking for the past two months actively since I really want to leave, and I've had no luck.
Is it really that easy to find new jobs? Where? What am I missing here?
Good for you. It worked out well for those of retirement age or eligible for a healthy severance and marketable in the job market. It’s even better if you’re vested in the defined pension benefit, and can cash out and put that to work in a robust market.
Getting layed off after 30 years was the best thing that ever happened to me! I now have a job I actually enjoy and I collected a full years salary at one shot! Some were not as fortunate but there are definitely jobs out there.
Maybe for technology. This site/thread started after some Claim layoffs, so in that context (Claims), as a person who hired hundreds of employees, I would not view a temp employment status as favorable.
There's nothing wrong with a temp agency. A lot of positions now are temp to perm. Also, going in as a temp gets you experience with other applications, and technology. It also give you an opportunity to see if you actually like the company or get a feel as to whether or not it's a stable company and if you really want to work there. Why take a job to find out you don't like it. That never looks good.
Two things; first, don’t believe the “ found a better job in no time with no problem” BS. Maybe for some, but it’s not that easy. Second, it’s easier to land a job when you’re still working in your field. Forget a temp agency. That’s a red flag. Unless it’s absolutely untenable, get active on Linked In and reach out to a recruitment agency to put your resume in play.
Connections are important. Reach out to people you know. Also join LinkedIn and other networking sites
Be patient is the best advice anyone can give. If you don't need the benefits right away, then you could try a temp agency?
