I think it's important to do the math and not listen to the reassurances of middle and upper management. North America will lose 5-10k people. By the end of Q2. Ford won't get to that number by just laying off middle management and contractors.

I have packed up my desk and carry my laptop to and from work each day. All of my personal items are long gone from my desk.

I am in my fifties and although I am a solid achiever status employee with top achiever rankings sometimes, I am not as well connected as some of my coworkers. I don't feel like I have anyone protecting me, so I am ready to face the inevitable if and when the time comes.

My thoughts are with all of us as we buckle down and wait to see if we are tapped on the shoulder. We will all survive this. Remember, at the end of the day, it's just a job.

Ford ethical my a--! Don’t require me to take any more ethics traning. Forget about diversity training too!!!

Informal poll at work today. Team demographics 66% over 55; 3% 40s; 31% under 30.

45% stated if offered a package today, they would take it.

25% stated they hope they get laid off as they are tired of the stress and planned to retire in 1-2 years anyway.

100% of under 30 crowd indicated they are actively seeking employment elsewhere.

This “smart redesign” is not having the desired outcome —- or maybe it is.

Pd work is slowly moving to Mexico, @ 1/3 the salary!

Well then, if they're gonna stretch this out for buyouts, retirements, transfers.....Get on with it. Offer a sweet buyout package like (or better than) last year and watch the flood of stressed out fed up employees walk out. I don't think that's the case however or they would not have done away with phased retirement for 2019.

Hackett is just worried about getting a bigger raise every year.

They should let him go with no GOLDEN PARACHUTE. That would be a joyous day at FoMoCo indeed.

I think 5-10,000 job losses is being overly optimistic. The total number of cuts is probably going to be closer to 25,000-30,000. Half of those cut are going to come from outside of the US (SA, Germany, China), but that still leaves about 15,000-12,000 positions that are going to have to be cut here in the states. Like the other posters have said, Ford's not going to pull a GM and cut those jobs in a week, they'll space it over the entire year and let everyone accept buyouts, early retirement, transfers, etc

Anyone who dresses up their desk/cube is clueless. Sorry. But every person employed and not their own boss should be always preparing by improving themselves. Period. Ford is a bloated pig and has been for ages. Seriously going from 30%-15% market share in 20 years? Do the math ! Take charge of your life. You will be rewarded.
