Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle OMC

Our VP was asked to do the layoff and he had dignity, he resigned. I would work for him again any day.

OMC is the best monitoring platform for enterprise. Just need to point at your WLS servers, and we can provide complete monitoring. Competition requires you to write complex code where OMC can easily get the metrics from the JVM. Best product ever, so sad people were laid off in our team.

How does it help anyone if the VP resigns? It just gives more power to the top management who do not have much idea about the product and engineers. They will just look at the salary and start cutting people and make it worse. Would it not be better to stay put and try to save a few more jobs than abandoning the ship? While I understand your POV about the VP trying to do the right thing, understand that they have a golden parachute waiting for then when they leave. So the VP is doing just what is right for him/her.

Only Oracle engineers think WLS is somehow in some customers' roadmap

Wls is dead. There is a limited roadmap in the horizon. Of course nobody will officially tell you because it’ll cause a customer stampede fleeing out of it to go full Microservices strategy. I’d suggest move out from it or better, leave oracle ASAP. There is enormous lack of leadership in every single LoB because literally nobody knows wth is going on.

Oracle’s strategy is focused on infrastructure and apps. It puts middleware like wls exactly where you can find it in the previous stentence.

It will not be spelled out in words, it will be spelled out in facts. i.e. rifs

LE has been really very clear, in many speeches and events he clearly indicated what Oracle will be in the close future. No need for other words, and more important: any other word not coming from LE is just useless and/or misinformed and/or an informed lie.

where does WLS fit into the strategic vision of Oracle the Cloud Services company. If we are focusing on Autonomous DB and SaaS delivered via OCI what does WLS matter? This is the lack of clarity that I'd like spelled out but I don't think we'll see because if we are moving away from that world, existing customers will leave in droves. If we are not moving away from that world, then we are not strictly a cloud services company. best just to leave it vague and slowly let things die out?
