Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

This has to stop

This can't continue for much longer. We are overworked as it is, if they cut more people from our team we will not be able to do anything. I'm not exaggerating, we have already picked up work from people who were previously laid off to the point that we will physically not be able to do more if more people are cut.

Work will not get done. Simple as that. How is this a sound business strategy?

How true so sad that things in this company got to be so awful sunk into hell this is why there are no exit interviews HR doesn't want to hear the truth I am so glad I am out of there I haven't gotten a raise in years awful abusive and certainly targeting the older people. disgrace

Get out. Just get out when you can.

If I actually sat down with HR for a serious exit interview, there would be 3 days worth of material to present, and another week if I could have interviewed meetings. But I don't have the guts, not after being verbally abused and threatened. I can't take the risk.

I am truly sorry for all the new people that will have no clue what sort of beast they're getting into. I don't have a good way to tell them, and telling HR won't, can't, fix it. It's a problem in the root of the department, how they communicate, and the mountains of bodies thrown under the bus.

I hope God will forgive me. This place really scars.

I had the same issue with training I had a jack-of-all-trades position where at any time you could be asked to work on something so you had to keep up on everything and certain things you didn't work on regularly so you had to refresh every time. not to mention that everything in this company is total chaos nothing's user-friendly there's no more subject matter experts and things are constantly being rolled out with bugs and changed every single minute it's like you have to learn software every day because tomorrow it's something else. I try to get ahead of the game by being proactive to to refresh knowledge on upgrades of a package that I might have to work on in a few months for an outing or something. I was told the same thing don't waste your time get taking training for something you're not using now my answer was I know how to prioritize if I'm busy I won't train. I'll train when I'm free. I never saw a company discourage learning as much as this place but then again why would you learn if you're not getting compensated other than to put it on a resume and for your own sanity

I tried taking an Agile Scrum course on AIG learning, was called in for a sitdown, and was told since it has nothing to do with my direct job function, (manager's name) is not going to sign off on it.

Operations Department...where doing as little as possible gets you ahead as long as you talk a big game about it

Not sure what department or line of business you work in but that isn't true for my division. What about taking some of the courses that the AIG learning and development site. Also join one of AIG's Yammer Groups.

I have the opposite problem. Others and myself sit around basically doing nothing all day. Management has no issue with us being on our phones for hours on end, but if we work on technical side projects it's an issue which warrants a sit down conversation about it. When you then ask about any particular process which is being damaged by my doing other other things to keep my mind sharp, I get, " that's not an appropriate response.."

Yeah...not am appropriate response.

I guess the only response anybody at AIG wants is to appear happy that you're being pimped out with below industry standard pay in exchange for having your mind and career stonewalles by a insecure loser who is sfraid of his/her own shadow
