Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

This is going to make it easier to RIF

There is definitely a huge change is coming to EMEA. ORACLE has started pushing employees out of ORACLE proper to an ORACLE branch named Oracle Global Services, this is for all employees that are in services scope. This is going to make it easier to RIF, and reduce compared to when everyone is under ORACLE CORP.

If you seen paperwork already it clearly states that nothing changes for employee.

So let me repeat same question asked before - "How does it make it easier?"

exactly. US people really don't get how difficult is to RIF people in some EU countries, specifically western EU (old Europe). in Germany and France for example is basically impossible without a worker agreement (and in any case it will take long time and huge money), in Italy and other countries is a little bit easier, but again it is much preferable to ask worker to resign (with huge money), and in any case it will take many months. in Spain it is easier, but then you cannot hire anyone or even move internal resources for a long period, a sh-- that happened recently with the RIFfed SSO org and OD.

Sorry, you're wrong. In a lot of EMEA, you can't do USA-style "pack up now, you're gone today" RIFs.

Dumb post. They don’t need to make RIFs easier. They call you in and can you on the spot. They hand you a cardboard box, you pack up your office, turn in your badge, and leave the premises. Nothing too difficult ‘bout that.

Go and talk to the prosecutors in your respective jurisdictions, this looks like premeditated fraud to me.

According to companies House in the UK, Oracle Global Services is the new name for Oracle Scotland.

Nope, Oracle will not sell the new Oracle Global Services. It is just a way to foce people in a "bad company" so that RIFs are easier in EU given labour laws in most countries.(e.g. Germany and France, but also Italy and others)

It doesn’t matter if the support s---s. Customers are stuck. Support businesses are worth HUGE money. Think IBM and EDS. Neither of which have reputations of being particularly worthwhile. Whatever they would call such a spinoff, it would immediately be worth big dollars. Support revenue was the forbearer of the subscription service.

If you work from home, a RIF is just a phone call away.

"my guess is ORACLE is going to sell the Oracle Global Services companies eventually. That will make ORACLE leaner and more agile I suppose."

That can't possibly be true! Oracle support stinks and they've already rif'd many of the experienced engineers and staffed it with newbie college kids who just read manuals to you. Who in their right mind would pay for that?

That is something that is happening in EMEA, my guess is ORACLE is going to sell the Oracle Global Services companies eventually. That will make ORACLE leaner and more agile I suppose.
