Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Lot of waste in paying layers of directors that contribute nothing to the company

Oracle could seriously remove half the management and it would have no effect. But would be a lot of money there to hire real architects and technical people who would actually know what they were doing. Lot of waste in paying layers of directors that contribute nothing to the company.

Though that @YLhTaMr-2qdi said it right in this post

I will sale Sales Directors have a lot of guidance and experience to execute ACTUAL sales deals. Business Development directors provide no business value to this company.

This is not only unique to Oracle. It’s universal problem for all companies.

Not true for small companies and start ups!

I am from consulting company. A consulting company never like this... A director/manager should have his own value.... to work.... not like oracle... Oracle/SAP is unique... This is why they finally will fail.

Old news, you just repeat the same thing over and over.

During the golden years of Oracle, there were lots of promotions of developers to Directors, regardless of whether they could manage or not. Some were really bad leaders. Basically, Oracle had a weak advancement strategy for individual contributors so they took the easy way out and made the superstars into Directors, and some eventually to VPs. This made the structure top-heavy with lots of layers, and this hierarchy survives today although it has been hollowed out recently in some divisions.

In other words, tell your manager next time that you want to change position to become a manager then you will have lifetime employment
