CenturyLink will no longer give gifts to employees who reach service milestones or upon retirement. Starting May 6th they will just give employees little notes filled with good cheer for such accomplishments.

Keep your gifts, recognition points, plaques. I haven’t had a raise at all in 3 yrs and now with all the metrics L3 uses I won’t ever get one. My position is slammed but the assigned tasks associated with them are few. I have to worry about check marks on a spreadsheet while they are trying to add check marks in the buildings lit column. Even if they’ll never be a dollar return made.
We're complaining because we remember what it was like working for a company that appreciated you, made you want to bust a-- to make it a success and were proud to work for. It is no coincidence that companies ranked as the best to work for are more profitable. And don't fool yourself into thinking you are an A team employee, work there long enough and it is your turn. They went down the line eliminating the most senior workers to reduce COSTS OF PTO, healthcare and salary that is typically higher for managers, especially the good ones who at one time got good raises. It's no coincidence that the older workers that were kept had lower seniority, so they cost less and balanced the numbers to avoid age discrimination.
Paid Company Trolls sent in by Management
This is in response to the comment about why “old guys” get a bad rap!
No where in that post did, I see any mention of entitlement or inference of entitlement. It was a simple question. Simple like your intelligence. You referred to “real service” I would presume you mean military service. From your comment I conclude that you never spent time in the military and only have Tv shows and movies to draw from. The military gives out more awards and recondition of accomplishment than this company ever thought about. I don’t know why the sudden need to trash “old guys”! Sounds like you could learn a thing or two from some “old guys”. Perhaps your “old” Mama or “old” Papa never taught you manners or respect for your elders. Maybe you never respected your mother or father. If either is the case, then shut up and start listening to those who came before you. You might learn a thing or two… NOT! I suspect your mind and intelligence is smaller than your ego. Your most likely a lost cause.
Scroll down 3 posts and you see some old person wondering if they will hire him....the entitlement attitude is why old guys get a bad rap! Instead of wanting little gifts maybe learn some skills like not using a sidekick to install hsi. And stop using the term "service". If this was the real service there wouldn't be whining for recognition....it sounds like a bunch of millennials crying for a participation trophy. You're getting paid.
I remember when. I have 35 years I want a breakfast. I have 40 I want a clock. I’m more dedicated than u. I want to be recognized. I can all f--- off and retire. We don’t need u.
" what a bunch of cry babies " ---- I am an a--hole I am an a--hole I am an a--hole
Here's your sign a form letter with your name auto added from a Macro that tracks your hire date, nobody knows you even get these. Be happy we spent all this money in IT to send you this.
Acknowledgement is suppose to be personal, a recognition of dedication and loyalty to making the company better and appreciation for dedication of a length of time in service doing so.
I wonder if Jeff and all the others directors and above would rather have a this form letter then their stock options and bonus payouts they say nobody else is getting but them.
Back in the day you were made to feel appreciated. Yes, Thanksgiving and Chriistmas lunch, small Christmas bonus, and some real Anniversary gifts. No smartasses they didn't owe us, but morale then was at least decent and everyone wasn't a backstabber.
Now, morale isn't low, it doesn't even exist. Everyone feels unappreciated because they know they are. Nobody cares about anything below director level. Some of them don't even care.
A happy employee is a productive employee. The majority of everyone's time now is spent on monster and indeed sending out resumes to escape the pending collapse of this place, or sitting back waiting and praying for a package.
Obviously, one person here never worked for the company when we were shown, for years, how much we were appreciated. Christmas bonuses, pay raises, service anniversary gifts, retirement parties, turkeys and hams for big holidays, and even awards for on our walls or desks. Now they’ve taken all that away from us. Only things left are STI and severance. Severance has been rumored to go since most major corporations don’t have it. Now we sit and wait for the call that it’s our time to go. It certainly would be a blessing in disguise.
The last decent service gifts were handed out by US West 20 years ago, the beginning of the end was when they started going cheap and going away from the traditional acknowledgement. Fact is now they put up a notification saying celebrate so and so's anniversary and tell them you appreciate them, funny the SRO's don't even acknowledge most of them. Used to get a small amount of money allocated to celebrate these as well, not sure if that still happens. Many used to by lunch or combine lower service dates amongst themselves to have a luncheon with coworkers. Can't see that happening either since they say we can't afford to let you take that time away form being available to help others.
"What a bunch of crybaby’s. Who f---ing cares. If u don’t like it here quit. Jack in the box is hiring for 10 bucks an hour. Geez. This company owes u nothing. U got paid. And even more in overtime. Get over your self"
Must me one of those 6 month Union busting 20 something's who think the world owes them the right to live, would love to see them at 50 state this same rhetoric.

Yeah well good luck getting it anyway. Just had 35 years with the outfit. Went through the pathetic little catalog and picked out a gift. Said shipping date was 2 months after the actual date I ordered it. Been 5 months now and still nothing. Another CenturyLink scam.
Are you not in the US? Over 5 years you may choose a gift on an article dated 5/3/19. Not saying they are good gifts.
So you say you have given us the best 40 years of your life?...… You worked day and night 6 days, 7 days beyond? Add to that the 600 hours of REQUIRED overtime every year (UNTIL THIS YEAR) ...missed all those ball games, dances, soccer games ,recitals …..poured your blood into something you have believed in all of your entire adult life.....that's nice here is a happy Lil E-mail message for your giving your life to us …..now collect that s##t and get out..
