Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

How much are the former Xerox workers valued on the job market?

Having Xerox on your resume used to mean a lot once, now, I’m not so sure. So my question is what does having Xerox on your resume mean to the potential employers now? Do they still consider it to e a good company or have they too become familiar with the real state of affairs at Xerox?

Xerox means nothing on a resume. Nothing. It’s almost as if it scares other employers. Yes, I have the skill sets, but the X word seems to be a turn off, not a turn on. I wonder if it would. benefit me if my resume states I’d worked for McDonalds for the last 30+ years rather than X. 😳

Skills are skills. It doesn't matter much where you came from, as long as your skills are up to date. If they aren't up to date, it's not xerox's fault.

I think it depends on your position and your skills. If you have solid transferable skills, I think it can give you an edge. If your skills are dated or non-transferable then there’s not a company name in the world that can help you.

I agree with zey, No matter what your skills, you need solid examples of how you benefited the company - saved time, money, improved quality of output which fixed or prevented a problem. If you have concerns about your skills start work on a new certification or just brushing up on your skills.

Doesn’t seem to carry much weight anymore...The magic name “Xerox”

has lost its luster...

You’re not wrong, -zey, but from a technical standpoint most software developers from there (the TECH POWERHouse!) know C and not much else. Those particular developers morphed into the dinosaurs they never imagined they would be but time passes by quick doesn't it. It’s hard to spin your resume when your experience is irreverent.

It’s value has fallen considerably unless you stay within the industry.

You need to spin your resume, focus on how you made a difference and focus on continuous learning and skills developed. You need a compelling story with a strong set of accomplishments that are relevant in your next job.

Imo.

They know you're fine working for c-ap benefits and health care, 401k match and with no raises for the past decade. They will value you accordingly.

Seeing Xerox on your resume makes people think you know how to service photocopier machines from 1986
