Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Leaving sounds easy, right?

Leaving sounds easy, right? Don't like it, then leave. Wish it were that easy, but it's not. Certainly, many, many people are trying, but until you get hired somewhere else, you're stuck. Many factors are involved.

This was part of the post that i found on another thread as a reply, OP by @XZk4hUP-2dnf , but i felt it was definitely on-point and a good message for those that think leaving is that easy.

ITS JUST A JOB PEOPLE!! There were jobs BEFORE it, there will be another AFTER it! Corporate America trains you to think they are the only puy out there. There’s ALWAYS another skank ready to finish you off when that first ct wouldn’t. I know it’s hard for those who are “used” to living middle class in Cali. Seriously, get over it, people do it every day on LESS. On a side note, emotional intelligence IS telling anyone to s--- it up. Feeling empathy for someone’s pain and giving them a solution is Emotional Intelligence 101. 🔥 Now go and get a pshycology degree. That way you have it when they lay you off.

I left American Girl after paralysis because of the benefits and I am in a new industry and I am making more money but the benefits and starting new without five weeks vacation is hard. I would never tell anyone what to do and anyone with the the emotional intelligence of a slug should telll their story without criticizing anyone else

The only things that make leaving difficult are fear of change and uncertainty. Fear of whether you'll like your next job, fear you'll be/seem incompetent starting out, uncertainty of whether your benefits will be as good.

Change is hard. I left due to layoffs. I had notification 4 months before my severance date. I had a new job lined up 2 months before leaving.

I'm in a new industry. Yes, there's uncertainty and times when I question my competence, but it's exciting too. No week is like the previous. I'm paid better, my benefits are just as good, I travel more, I have better support from my superiors, and I'm in an industry that is growing. I like my job.

Change is hard, but sometimes change is necessary. Be brave.

Admittedly, it is easier to be brave and accept change when you have no choice. It's even easier when you're drawing salary on top of severance.

So true...its a jungle out there! But definitely other and better opportunities. I finally escaped at the end of 2017 with a nice severance. And then found a job with comparable, if not better benefits. Mattel is not the end all be all it’s all cracked up to be.

Onward!
