Y is cutting the throat of Mattel. Retaining and obtaining good employees means offering legitimate perks. 30+ years we have the 1/2 day Friday benefit and just like that, Y can’t get an answer from east coast on one random Friday and he’s mad and decides this. What’s next? Watch - he’ll take Christmas holiday away too. 😡🤬

The only people I know who don't work on Friday afternoons are unemployed.
These comments are all "great", but a VAST majority don't have unlimited vacation and are not eligible to work from home! We are not the ones "Y" is looking for at 4pm on a Friday. And let's face it, we do more than our managers have a clue we do...and now, for what? WTF!
Leaving sounds easy, right? Don't like it, then leave. Wish it were that easy, but it's not. Certainly, many, many people are trying, but until you get hired somewhere else, you're stuck. Many factors are involved.
This place is the virtual water cooler. It's a place to vent and commiserate. Let them do it.

Do the math, the company went from almost $7 Billion to less than $5 Billion in revenue. The business is shrinking so it makes sense for the workforce to shrink as well. The business needs to be sized right in order to survive. If you feel like you are being over worked walk away, you are not bound to Mattel but if you stay it is a choice you are making.

No one has unlimited vacation. It's a stupid concept in a company that just laid off 2200 people less than a year ago. More layoffs likely. Everyone left, depending on your role, is taking on 2-3 their work to make up for that.
Sooo.... what prevents us... from taking vacation whenever we want??

You guys are just weird! Your once grand company is declining by double digits every year, and here you are - complaining about the half day fridays lost! Where’s your team spirit in trying to save a dying company?? And on top, you guys have an unlimited vacation policy!! What prevents you from taking a few extra days off if and when you need them?

It's a sure sign that layoffs are coming. People want to observe who's working and who's not. If you're not working in the office, you're definitely not working at home. Also gets rid of low commitment folks who will leave on their own without severance.

Pro tip: For those "working from home", try not to post selfies and live streams from road trips and theme parks on social media while you're "home"..."working".
Xmas holiday is as good as gone at this point. Who can complain with all the unlimited PTO everyone's got?
