Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

1 or 2 days a week WFH is gone?

Is this confirmed to be the new company policy? What was the point in beating around the bush and having people re-submit their arrangements for approval then? If that is true, the money they could have saved by not building the unnecessary new system could have saved someone’s job.

Have to have submissions in by end of month. Expect an en mass rejection come Friday maybe?

What is happening with based at home staff who do not have access to an office in their “division” (investment services or investment management)?

Everyone I have spoken to had their request denied

For those that have submitted a request in the new system, curious to know how that turned out. Are requests being instantly denied? Has anyone successfully gotten a new arrangement approved or a previously approved arrangement reapproved? Any tips or advice?

They really shot themselves in the foot with this policy. Have fun trying to get deliverables out on time when half your staff is either late or needs to take a vacation day because the weather knocks out whatever the main public transit is for that area . I personally think that new system is in place only as a means to identify people in the next round of layoffs. According to someone like Charlie, the people who request one day a week are in fact absent and doing nothing one day a week :/

Use the portal to submit your request so you have official records of the request being rejected. It will show that BNYM does not offer work/life balance as they claim. Our company needs to stop stating that as a perk in line with peer companies to incentivize new hires.

After word comes down the chain verbally with management saying the request was not approved, which we know it will, I encourage employees to resubmit the request for one day a month and force your manager to OFFICIALLY reject the request. This will show that the policy is a farce when management won't even approve one day a month.

The entire process was a setup to begin with for employees and managers.

We were told Friday no more work from home no exceptions no matter what official policy say

Funny thing is that was one of the perks keeping me there. Imagine it is for others too

The whole role out of the “online portal” was a bait and switch. We are being told not to even bother applying online as it will immediately be rejected. We are being told we can WFH only in bad weather and other emergencies. I don’t know why they wasted 7 months of time by trying to portray this as a simple review of policy and documentation. I truly despise Charlie.

That is my understanding as well and the most that will be approved is 1 to 2 days a month. No exceptions allowed.

Company policy allows for 1-2 days a week on paper, however management is enforcing rules to make WFH intermittently, maybe once or twice per month.
