Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Is this really how it's done?

I keep reading people are getting walked out without even being given a chance to pick up their stuff? How is this okay? And what is the point of it?

The CHRO is the worst amongst the execs. I hope she's the next to get axed!

I was called into a conference room by my manager’s manager (my direct manager was laid off before me). I knew the cuts were coming and was hopeful for a package...most of my desk was packed.

HR stayed in the room with my while my coat and purse was collected for me. I was then escorted down by management- not security. I was offered a car home which I declined. I’ve never been happier! So grateful to be free and have time to travel and soul search.

On to the next! Good luck to all!

If you work at 240G and get a phone call or your manager comes to get you to go to the 10th Floor, for any reason. Get your stuff together, pull yourself together, log off the computer, say goodbye to your colleagues. Use the restroom - I hear they will not give you a car home. Handle it like the professional you know you are! Don't let those psychopaths gain an inch of satisfaction. The HR rep, most of them do have empathy, they are human. It's those who reside on the 15th Floor and the head of HR who lack it.

The HR person in my case asked me what I wanted my manager to retrieve from my desk prior to excusing him.

Much as that s---s, I can't really fault them for it. Having been through it, you are devastated and your adrenaline is pumping, and the urge to just go off on someone is overwhelming. Dozens of possibilities for disruption - screaming f--- you at everyone, yelling out system passwords, revealing who your manager is sleeping with, punching him in the face. Better that they keep you from doing something stupid.

Folks used to be able to say goodbye and collect their things (at least at my location). Now they're summoned away by HR, and don't return.

If you see an HR person standing with the guards in the morning when you arrive at work be sure that it's a day of cuts. Has always been this way.
